British rating board examines gaming

Post by satman83 »

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) rates fewer than 7 percent of the games released in the UK (those with adult content are required to get a BBFC rating), but it wants to have 100 percent understanding of the medium regardless. To that end, the BBFC today released a report on its research into all aspects of games, from what gamers like and why to parental concerns and regulation.

The 107-page report is culled from a series of interviews on broad topics with a diverse group, from young and middle-aged gamers to concerned parents, game reviewers, and developers. One of the most interesting topics touched on in the report was that of violence in games, and it's one the report approached with caution.

"This is a difficult subject," the report reads. "A number of points may be made that, taken together, make the incidence of violence in games more comprehensible and perhaps less malign than may initially appear."

people need to calm down with videogames. They keep us calm and give us something to do. If they want to piss and moan about things then they need to take it up with the game developers and not the public.

Foxxy do you suffer from Hybris? ;( Behave plz.

Uhm ya ... videogames are labelled pretty strict here yet or games are manipulated so they can be sold at 16 (if they were 18+ or got "indexed")..

But come on ... games with green blood?! WTF (referring to UT2k3 and/or 2k4, don't remember exactly) ... then better no blood.

But oh well, even when I was 14 or so I was able to get and play every game I wanted, so ..... it ;) ... Now as I can get about everything legal ... even hardest of hard alcohol and crap ... you lose interest in things ;(

*wants to be 16 again*

The joke is that it's the best and most popular thread on the 1st page!!!
Satman, please, don't blame black for spamming, cuz everyone spams a lot, including (and especially) you. The point of the off-topic section is to make off-topic threads, such as Ask Black.
I think tighter control for games could be used everywhere, but then we have to draw the line somewhere. After all, a bit of violence makes gaming fun, even very minor violence.
McCain, he (Barack Obama) said, will soon "be accusing me of being a secret communist because I shared my toys in kindergarten."

At least in America the trend of game playing and the average
ages of gamers is lower the UK.

in the US parents generally buy games for their children.
but in the UK its normaly gamers who buy the games themsevles
