There's really several things that can cause this issue, but I will try to cover a few possibilities here.
Try a complete virus/spyware scan with multiple tools, not just one.
Disable any unnecessary programs and services before loading SRO, especially those requiring Internet access.
Defrag the hard drive. Defrag it again. And again, until you have large chunks of blue with no red.
While you're at it, defrag the page file and registry too: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/FileAndDisk/PageDefrag.mspx
Upgrade the firmware on your router (if you use one).
Make sure you have the most current video drivers.
If you're using a wireless network, try using a wired connection. Some wifi routers have a "speed boost" mode that causes packets to arrive out of sequence. This can cause a lot of problems with some online games.
It sounds like a network issue, like maybe the connection is getting choked.
Hope this helps.

Similar thing happens to me. I have r9600xt gpu. Sometimes while I play picture freezes, monitor goes off, then back on and message pops up that ati gpu crashed and restarded and bla bla bla. It happens a lot, at least once a day, and it's annoying.
btw. after that tinh pops up, theres a report a problem, which I did. It offered me a solution, but it didnt help -.-

I don't have an ATI box in front of me atm, but I remember having this problem a lot after installing the Catalyst Control Center. Perhaps reinstalling the driver without the CCC might help.
Also, is the card overclocked? If so, you may want to drop the GPU and/or memory settings a tad.

By far the most annoying bug/glitch/whateveryoutocallit
You then ahve to close it with ctrl/alt/delete. Which takes like 5 minutes.
And then when you try to start back up, there's a 9/10 chance you will get the ??? error each time you load, which means computer restart time

That used to happen to me a lot.....like every fifteen minutes in the evenings. The problem was my connection. A call to Verizon resulted in a technician coming out the next day. About an hour later, everything (not just SRO) was better than it had ever been.
Check the lights on your modem to see if your connection is good or not.

Ok. I think i know whats going on with games that freezes and shuts down or whatever it is. I dont know if its this but i think your graphic card is getting too warm. My sisters computer had this problem and whatever the graphic card was too warm else the whole cpu /syst is too warm, get a new good fan or something. Try open the compscale to cool it down or whatever u wanna call it lol, bye.
