How I ruined a poor noob's life T_T

So I was messing around climbing mountains, visiting old newb areas, and enjoying the jangan field. Then, I went to the tomb. I remember that place from back in the day, when I saw my first tombstone (and got one shot by it), I remember questing there... It's one of my favorite areas on sro yet I've only been there maybe three times tops. Anyway, I'm on my horse exploring, and I ride towards the area in the corner where that building is. I go behind the building and there's a couple secluded trees in that area. I see an item in the distance, hidden behind one of the trees.. but wait, it seems to be a sos item :shock:

So I go pick it up, and I get a 16 sos spear. :shock:

A few seconds later, I see someone log in right behind the tree where the sos was. He moves around for a bit out of confusion, then logs right back out.

I guess he didn't know that your characters share the storage

He didn't even give me enough time to catch his name, or even say anything, and now the spear is going to my friend

Moral of the story- No matter how secluded an area is, there's always a tiny chance someone might show up.. don't drop items!

Edit- To anyone who may think, zomg you are evil!! I said he was only on for a few seconds, I didn't get to catch his name. Then I stayed waiting there for at least 10 minutes to see if he would come back, he didn't, and I bounced.

I learned this the hard way, tried to drop a stone to get on my stall char, came back and it was gone lol

Lol, before i realised that Storage was sharable i did this, i would be droping like Hunderds of K in gold, Elixers, items, pots, scrolls. All the expensive crap. Then log out n log in really quickly....

But i always did it in town, going to the most distant corner, behind the most distant building... Never got anything stolen..

LOL, at least trade it to a friend to trade it back to you later. And a friend in real life so you can talk to them if they wont return it.

Thats what i use to do before i figured out storage was shared.

But poor guy, though you didn't do anything wrong because if i saw a black box lying on the ground and no one was around i wouldn't think twice but take it.

Only items i got here in Aege by searching the area like that where 12 jewel boxes=12 scrolls

Seems i repel SOX items in a radius of 2km.

i did that aswell i used to give my bro items when we were both nubs he thought i was pro @ lvl 17

id have taken it no matter whos it was, he didnt know someone was to log back in and look for it

someone could have got it and died

theres always a risk with drop trading thats why when i used to do it before i knew about storage, i went past the lvl 30 in chi'n tomb all the way to the end and did it that way

LOL! That's got to be a sinking feeling, logging back in and finding it's gone. Question - if you leave a drop on the ground long enough, will it disappear like the junk stuff does, even if the drop is sox???

anywho, got a little OT story for ya.

I got a SOS spear the same way...sorta.

Was on a TG hunt (L44, I know, just got off ticket time and was bored...), and she spawned on a unionmate near the entrance to the western ferry...I was in the stronghold on the western side. So off I gallop like a bat out of hell across the fields, and see a few bots grinding away. Amongst all of the alchemy items, gold, and quest items that weren't being picked up, I saw one or two item boxes and then ::gasp:: an sos box. So I pick it up...ooh, +1 sos spear!!

So i can truthfully say I went on a TG hunt and got a sos spear drop in return.

update on tg: Oh, she got pwnt the moment I got there...4x glavie unionmate got her

I was happier about the spear, so I could care less about killing her!
