The History of N00bs
The word "N00b" also commonly used as "nub, nob, and newbie" came about in the MMO scene after players grew bored of using the same old insults. N00b is most commonly used to describe any other gamer online excluding yourself, and today has overtaken "the" as the most common word used while online. In fact, "the" has fallen to the 4th most common word that is used by online gamers. Data taken from
"The Institute of Pwning N00bs" shows the following:
Most common words used online
1: N00b
2: f@#k
3: bot
4: the
N00b came about in 1991 after a 13 year old boy by the name "Ricky" aka "Ricky the retarded gamer" was trying to humiliate a fellow gamer after beating him in PvP. He was very excited to have beat down the other player many times, even though said player was 10 levels lower then Ricky, and in his excitement he made a typo, and N00b was born.
Today, N00b is used in many ways and is considered the ultimate online insult by children around the globe. Here is an example of a common online exchange:
Player 1: omg you f@#in n00b! you suk and i pwned you
Player 2: you're 10 lvls higher then me you stupid nub
Player 1: so? you suk and you're a n00b
Player 2: whatever you f@#in nub bot!
An exchange like this is usually followed with a shout from one of the players to let the entire server know that Player X is a n00b. This usually results in a shouting match that everyone is forced to listen to, wherein the words bot, f@#k, and n00b are used as much as possible to demonstrate said players online dominance.
Sadly, and much to the dismay of educators around the globe, since the inception of the word n00b, a global IQ drop of 30 points has been noted according to Cambridge University. Unfortunately this word seems like it's here to stay as Webster's Dictionary announced last week that it will be added in next years edition.
N00b (noun): Any person who plays an online game that isn't yourself.
Ya, I was bored...

Frankly I cant stand this word. It is ignorant and puerile. At any rate a "noob" is really just a new person to the game, so when someone calls anyone like 42+ especially 64+ers a noob lol I just roll my eyes and sigh. They have been around sufficiently long I would assume to know what's going on in the game and how it runs, assuming "cough" they were around during the lvling of their char. People who use and abuse this word need to be bi&^%slapped lol and grow up. When its thrown my way I just say yes I am lol and carry on with my business.

I'm neutral when it comes to noob, but from previous posts/quotes/sources which I can't be assed to find, newb = new player, while noob is a derogatory reference.. originally noob, then people decided to be all leet-speakish and say n00b, then nub.. then all kinds of retarded incarnations..
