The freeware version is no longer available online, but I still have it if you want to try it out. Send me an pm with your e-mail address and I'll send you the file. (It's surprisingly small.) Also, if you have a tablet, it opens so much more possibilities with the program. (Wacom for the win!
)
Please note - the program is NOT fancy-fancy on text in the older versions and working with white and layers is different from a lot of programs. The newer versions are much more versatile and have more pretty things but also note this does NOT do GIFs/PNG/transparencies.
When I work with the program, I generally do my desired artwork there and move it to another program to make it into a GIF, add text, animations, etc. The program is also VERY inexpensive.

(I've been slacking on posting more of my work and some of it is ANCIENT.)

Well, at least a post that helps me! But I can't get it to save as transparency... hmm...
EDIT:

Lol, I downloaded a version free =D maybe it was old. But at least I know why I cant do transparencies
So, possibilities looking pretty bleak
Edit #2: to AyaChan, it will do png, just not transparent or gif

Another freeware program is The GIMP. You can do transparent gifs with it, but I haven't tried myself. If you google "GIMP + Transparent GIF" you get a lot of articles showing you how. ^^

Ummm.... with GIMP, how do I download it =S
And to your picture gallery, nice pictures ^^ I can't draw at all... Comp or Real life
edit: ok i got it downloaded... now i get this:
Basically it says to use GIMP i need 4 things, then between these four things they need 4 more things. AAHHH

1. You need to have installed a recent version of pkg-config available
from http://www.freedesktop.org/software/pkgconfig/.
2. You need to have installed GTK+ version 2.4.4 or better. Do not
try to use an older GTK+ version (1.2.x), it will not work.
GTK+ itself needs recent versions of GLib (>= 2.4.5),
Pango (>= 1.4.0) and ATK. Sources for these can be grabbed from
ftp://ftp.gtk.org/. GTK+-2.x and friends can be installed side
by side with GTK+-1.2.
3. We require PangoFT2, a Pango backend that uses FreeType2. Make
sure you have FreeType2 and fontconfig installed before you
compile Pango. FreeType2 can be downloaded from
http://www.freetype.org/. Fontconfig from
http://freedesktop.org/fontconfig/. GIMP 2.2 depends on
freetype2 being newer than version 2.1.7. Older versions are
known to have bugs that seriously affect stability of The GIMP.
4. We use libart2. Grab the module libart_lgpl out of GNOME CVS or
fetch the tarball from
ftp://ftp.gnome.org/pub/gnome/sources/libart_lgpl/

cs2 is about 600-800$ depending were you buy it. I got mine illegaly though and I wasn't sure if it was aloud on this forum so I won't mention how to get it my way.
Gimp is good but I've heard it's a bit confusing to learn at first.
I use cs and have had this cracked version since cs came out, how lucky am I?
<3.
If you're also into rendering or making 3d thing look into blender ~ I think blender is free~ Anyhow it'sa neat program if you're into 3d stuff.

Downloading gimp is confusing I must say, I shall explain.
To startm, go to the Gimp home page, hit the 5th link on the left (it should say download
), scroll down about halfway, click download for Windows, Macs, or Unix, next hit automated installer, go to the 3rd link on the left, it should say download, download the latest version on the Gimp AND GTK runtime (YOU NEED THIS TO USE THE GIMP), after it's all downloaded, install GTK first, then the Gimp, and finally have fun (world's longest run on sentence
).
