its the character map of a space i believe lets you do some commands that the word filter prohibits

holding alt and pressing 255 or 0160 creates a non-breaking space. Its like a normal space except its not supposed to show up (It does show up as a smaller space or a small . in silkroad though) and because it is not a proper space it is classed as a character. Thus adding an extra character to the begining of the word procceding it so that it is not affected by silkroads primitive filters.
