teach me about photoshop

i had this laptop for awhile but today i discovered i had photoshop rotting away in my hard drive so i thought i might as well use it to make a sig

can any pro teach me how to use photoshop :? where are all the controls, functions, brushs, effects etc.

or u can leave a guide for me to read l8er

If people can write books w/ hundreds of pages on how to use photoshop, one tutorial isn't going to do it XD. So, I recommend just playing around like most people or read a book.

but if you have specific questions, ask away ^^

my main question is how do i isolate an object from everything else and put it on a new background?

There are several ways...

1) zoom pic to 200% or 300%, use polygonal lasso tool to select the background away. do it in small parts to make it easier, probably the easiest to start with.
2) pen tool, a more precise way to make selections. go read moogie's tutorial stickied at the top.
3) magic wand, a rough way to make selections if there's an obvious color difference between the background and what you're trying to isolate.
4) quick mask, similar to magic wand but slightly more precise.
