Way to beat 1 star popper people?

Way to beat 1 star popper people?
I was doing a trade. It was going good for a while. (first time going through the ravine) I deside to go North of Hoyeosi/Tiger Mountain, the path near that house. (the one with the yeoha quest, the psychic person) Suddenly a thief player on a white horse comes up, and I thought,"Oh Crap." He was about 22 meters away, then I get disconnected. That got me thinking,"Oh Craaap." I log back on, and the thief is about 17 meters away getting owned by a Hunter who was about 5 lvls above him.
So, is it fair to purposely disconnect when a thief trys to do that?
Is it ok, to fight "abusing[the system]" with abusing[the system]"?
And an important question... Does it work most of the time? Or did I just get lucky...?

I took a long break. 4 months of jSRO, 2 months of no SRO.
I level up slow because either..
A) I decide to have fun instead of grinding
B) I am SP Farming
C) I keep on getting killed

Thats the fastest way to die and helps the 1 star poppers.
havent died so far.
***this also applies to high lvl traders who leave (accidentally or not)thier spawns on me(which happens alot)
Bakemaster wrote:DarkPyro wrote:The problem with this is that it takes 60 seconds to disconnect with a transport.
It takes 60 seconds to log off with a transport, yes, but it may not take 60 seconds when you get DCed. Unless you know something I don't?
Its 60 seconds even if you get DCed with a transport.
yea i was disconnected while doin a trade with 2 others i met on the way. decided to party. i dc as my thief spawns. luckily they noticed i stopped, turned back and gaurded me till i dissapeared. so sounds like that hunter was in the right place when it happened, or you would have been dead.

I haven't seen any poppers on oasis , I popped a little caravan myself . but not on purpose. And since I didn't have a res and no1 was near to res them I took their goods , wasn't much left for me to do besides that . They could've also just lay there for hours waiting for a res

this is a good tactic. it saves the trader frustration and lost goods. your mount will NOT be terminated, you will NOT lose your goods, but it DOES take 60 secs to log off. you can likely pot your transport during this, but i don't know for sure.

I voted on YES. If it would work (sumtimes it does), it's completely O.K and allowed ! The thief isn't allowed 2 get ur stuff when ur doin a 1 star trade !
otheriwse it's unfair and seperates the unworthy players from the worthy players of SRO.

probably not. i find that the fastest i've ever seen thieves spawn is about once every 30-45 secs. even if they spawned a 5-star (unlikely, since why would they be trying to pop you then?), 100 kits would likely last you through a single spawn. it takes longer than 60 secs for 5 npc thieves to kill a Bactrian.

Well I believe that this is a tactic that traders can use, but i only encourage the disconnection through the 60 second route, and not just unplugging of your connection.
Plus, im sure there is a risk to your character if you just pull the plug.
I believe that 60 second rule is in place just for this reason, 60 seconds to run away from a thief is reasonable if you can pull it off, its the same as the 20 second limit on picking up your items.
I mean, ask yourself, SilkRoad is basically encouraging you to finsish a trade and not leaving through it, thus the 60 second rule that makes it risky for you, but if you can pull it off they congraulate you, so go for it if you can.
But thats if you can!! The option I use to get away rom 1* poppers is to use the ferry if your close,
Spot a 1* popper, go to the ferry asap, teleport then d/c when you reach the other side > you get an extra 10 seconds for the 1 star popper to follow, then another 30 seconds or so for their thief (or yours) to spawn
It works everytime, only used it twice, and now I have no fear against 1* poppers.
Please note: I accept everything that is orginally appliable in the game > 1 star popping and other nick nacks are all part of it, though some may not like it, theres ways to work around it.
This discludes botters, hackers.

FINALLY people are beginning to accept the fact that this isn't going to go away. it isn't a bug, it isn't a glitch. it's not on Joymax's list of things to "fix". people like Kenjura and BlueFeather who are finding ways to legitamtely beat this legitamte (read: allowed) tactic are heroes in my book. 10pts to you both.

STINGER wrote:I have had traders log off even on straight up thefts, this is a reasonable tactic, its not super easy to kill a transport being potted especially with NPCs. Now......really low level vs high I doubt you will get out fast enuff unless its only 1-2 NPCs.
especially if the trader is on a horse. they go down far too quickly. but a bactrian or indian camel would be almost impossible to 1-star pop while the trader was logging out unless there were hella thieves.

Agree with SG here, its really good to see people taking more of a proactive stance against this then just moaning and bitching.....I can bitch and moan all day about bots and it does nothing, but if I turn them in as much as possible it "might" help.......well finally some that I have turned in got banned this time.

Most people don't do this at the first sign of trouble.
Traders / thief / hunter who DC or log have usually had a bad day. If they died that many times there so fustrated they log, I dont really care. Usually its a laughable incident.
"LOLOLOL HE LOGGED!"
Only time I dont like it is this is multistar traders.
You accept the fact that PVP is no longer restricted and you are not protected by "safe trade" -- yet logout instead so we can't do our job as thief. It happens a lot more than you'd think.
How bout everyone just go 2-3 star and logout so thief can never get.
Thief has learned how to take down trader. Trader needs to learn how to counter the thief without telling himself its abuse or bug.

I been "pop" and lose by a thief but that was the first time i trade
now every times i see a thief with a camel white, high lv weapons with camel i run.
It been 2 times i ran and sucessful trade when thief trying to pop me.
Important: never seen 1 trying to poping by horse. It that would happen i think i will lose, my camel IS slow

Traders need to learn to counter the thieves -- with that I agree; but he has a right to bitch about it, just like you have a right to bitch about res killing and various other abuses.

wouldn't it be funny if in real life hundreds of years ago you're a real trader on the silkroad and some thief comes then you just disappear into thin air LOL.
thief: muhahaha I will be rich
trader: huh what was that
thief: <sneaks up about to strike>
trader: <poof>
thief: WTF!!!

How is res killing an abuse? It's not taking advantage of a glitch. If you're a trader and a thief kills you, then tries to res you, you don't HAVE to accept the res. Why would you accept? You should know there's a GOOD chance the thief will just kill you again. Just stay dead and wait for him to leave, or go back to town.
I just have to laugh at the traders that let thieves res them just to drop dead a moment later.
