Completely understandable. I, on the other hand, am in my early stages of experiencing the wonders of a stick. For instance, I could do a fatty burnout with my 130 HP 110 TQ SL2. Oh, and I'd smoke even more V6 cars than I already do.

And that's a completely minor plus-side to driving a stick - but burnouts are fun.

I will soon have the opportunity to drive a modified STI puttin out like 340 HP...and no, it's not an automatic LOL. It's a car we've been working on at the garage for the past 6 months or so. My co-worker has already gotten to take a spin...my boss gets to borrow the damn thing on weekends pretty much whenever he asks. My turn comes soon.

You're very lucky. I grew up around two automatic vehicles with little sport potential. I was never taught jack about cars. So it falls to me to learn about car mechanics by myself. Late in life. I suck.

Drifting is poo. I like to grip. It's harder to corner at the limits while staying within those limits than to exceed those limits and control the slide. But that's coming from someone who has never owned a RWD car and therefore has never drifted, so I really dunno what I'm talking about.

So tell me, does drifting take more skill and concentration than grip racing?

I learned to drive on an '84 Sentra with one foot into the grave. You know, the kind of car that you have to drive with the heat on full blast in the summer or it'll die. The kind of car where two doors only open from the inside anymore, until some idiot turns on the child lock on one of them and now it only opens from the window.

Then I stated taking the driver's ed course at my high school. In an automatic. It was boring. The instructor was worthless. She had me drive to the projects to pick up her niece and she never taught me to parallel park, which is why I failed my first test to get my license.

Automatics are just too boring for words. But I get around by bike, bus and subway most of the time so don't need to own any car.

Yes drifting is harder than "grip racing", atleast real drifting.
Trying to drift from corner to corner and along the straight, never losing control nor losing the drift and impressing the jury IS very hard.
You need perfect throttle / clutch / handbrake control to do it, you need to feel every motion of the car and know what it will do if you do a certain thing.
Actually neither one is "harder", both are hard.

I live in the chicagoland area, traffic blows and I have a 45 min commute and after 10 years of driving a stick I stopped. My left foot got tired.

I drive, love to drive, can't stand it when I'm in the car and someone else is driving lol. The only time I'm aggressive is behind the wheel, not that I have road rage, I just wanna get to where I gotta be. And no hard feelings if you live in my area and I fly past you yelling obscenities and give you the finger.. It's just how I roll hehehe

Lol I've never heard of ANY of those except the NSX. And I was being dumb thinking of that as Acura. Yes I know they're the same thing in Japan.

I can drive, and i do, because enable to get places you must, and i dont like to sit at home to much, plus i have to get to work,
and i got my license...in november...and i am a dangerous driver, and speed all the time, yet still havnt gotten a ticket

and my step dad has a mini cooper and its manual and thats the only reason i know how to drive one, even though my car is a piece of crap and is automatic...and really ugly

But over the years got sick of it, especially in rush hour traffic, jams stop and go

God automatic is nice. I must have gotten old =(

Seeing 12-13k rpm on a bike more fun than 5k in a car anyway

Course, it does 80mph in 1st gear, and you can flip it with too much gas

Sometimes drive the pickup truck at work - thats stick. I dunno tho I get the hillbilly feeling while driving pickup truck. Specially since they keep it on the country music station

One time I popped it doing bout... 50 or so on the street

Rode OK for a while but then started twisting left, right and sideways on one wheel

Started to drop sideways to the ground but miraculously, when I pulled the clutch it straightened itself back out

I will never, ever forget that feeling

Funny thing is, I actually did crash at 60mph wheelie in jeans / t-shirt

And that experience of 'almost' crashing is 10x scarier I still shiver when I think about it

I stopped doing high speed wheelies for good a few years ago cuz of shit like that

Oh and watch out for those little pocket bikes... they do flip like every fkin time you get on it

Lol I know what you mean Ryoko. I actually have been in an accident, and I'll NEVER forget the feeling of having no traction what-so-ever while sliding at a very incorrect angle for a car to be at...while going 40 MPH in a very narrow windy canyon road. I almost slid into a tree, but instead I over-countersteered to the right and hit a bank, drove up it at an angle and rolled over, landing on the roof. Slid for like 10 feet lol. Man I love seatbelts.

I'll never forget the feeling of being upside down in midair in a friggin car.

Yeah I hurt myself pretty bad when I flipped that pocket bike. I of course didn't have a helmet, and OF COURSE landed straight on the right side of my head.

Funny part is that my bike accident hurt way worse than my car wreck.

Anyway when it was time to take the AP Physics test he said anyone who got a 5 could drive his MR2. Unfortunately for me I only had my permit and he just let me drive it around the mall parking lot.

That's a nice car. I feel bad for you. I got to drive a Bentley around a parking lot. It's kind of the same thing. I had no room to floor the gas nor to take a turn kinda hard.
