As far as I know, it doesn't work with Linux.

But I've heard about programs that convert Windows commands to Linux comands, which enables you to run Windows programs.

However, I have absolutely no experience with Linux at all, so I can't really help you, sorry.

in my experience.

Cedega will not play SRO (Formerly knows as Winex, or Wine with DX support)
Wine (Wine is not an emlator) will not play SRO. It will let you do everything but log in
CrossoverOffice also has SRO marked as unplayable.

HOWEVER, ther eis another possible solution, and if i can get it to run i will write aquick tutorial.

My next test will be with virtualization technology. I am not sure if virtualization will allow me to use direct x or not, but if it does, we will be one step closer to allowing SRO to run on linux :).

Ther eis also another solution:

It is rumored that sometime in the near future, VMWARE is going to support 3d libriaries. In other words, direct x should work under vmware very shortly. The support might be minimal, and only a half a step forward. But we can at least look forward to SRO in linux :)

Yeah you can't. Cedega/WINE don't support SRO at this time since SRO uses GameGuard drivers that requires Windows. All major virtual machines don't support DirectX graphics. VMware has experimental support requiring the addition of a line to the *.vmx file, however, it doesn't work with SRO. Maybe in the future. Otherwise set up dual-boot.

SRO works on Linux. See this thread: http://www.silkroadforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=36267&highlight=linux

I loaded up Ubuntu Linux 6.06 on my computer. I installed Wine, installed the Nvidia kernel, transferred SilkroadOnlinevGlobalOfficial_v1.02.exe on to the Ubuntu Box, and installed silkroad online. The game installed, updated, then started with no problems. Game Guard also ran then updated and started with no issue.

The only real problems were text related in the game. Some people's names and guilds would not show up.

It is possible. Check it out.

Hmm...interesting. I've gotten Starcraft to work in WINE before, but I've never tried Silkroad. I'm currently running Ubuntu 6.10 in a Virtual Machine, which is why I'm not very eager to try Silkroad. The last time I tried it in a Windows 2000 virtual machine, it crashed the box and caused a blue screen. I do have access to an actual Ubuntu box that I can work on...but it's in school and they shape the traffic anyway, so it'll download at ~25kb/sec. Not to mention the angry system administrators.

It can be tricky getting it to run.

Some things that will help:

Having an Nvidia card.
Using the latest Nvidia driver (9755)
Using the latest Wine (0.9.35)
Not having the msttcorefonts package installed.
Not having Beryl or Compiz installed.
Having a detailed and working Monitor section in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf

I had no problems with the game installing, GameGuard updating, the game launching or playing.

The only problems I had are with text not displaying properly, white boxes showing up for guild emblems, and my settings for video, audio, and set game are not saved.

It would seem that Ubuntu 7.04 would be the best shot for getting it working on Linux right out of the box. It seems to take the least amount of work. I tried PCLinuxOS today and it had older Wine versions, and I had problems getting the newest Wine to compile. I haven't felt like messing with Gentoo, but expect that it would provide excellent game play. (Based on previous experience with Gentoo and games.)

Verbious, have you fixed in that way the buffs serie's graphic bugs ? on my computer, when my character is buffing, no lights appears ( or sometimes, depending of the camera angle :banghead: ) and my SoS haven't the purple blur as usual ( it appears like being a +3 )

But it works, I can Swear it ( see the other section, I posted a screenshot... )

You would be sweet if you say ' yes I fixed it  '
