fire = most powerful imbue
fire = most powerful nukes
fire = phys dmg increase
fire = mag defence increase
lightning = strong imbue and strong nukes
lightning = mag damage increase
lightning = grasswalk
lightning = parry ratio increase
lightning = lion shout
When you are fully farmed you will want nearly all skills maxed out at least til lvl 60, most likely 68 (or 80 if you use the nukes often) on lightning (for force piercing force), and probably further on for fire because fire is your imbue and fire has your main nukes, so higher damage by raising the fire mastery can be useful.

second book of ice nukes is alright... but still wouldn't go ice.
fire nukes rule and light is a nice second nuke.
yeah...ice not a very good nuke...cold is pretty much a defensive tree for the nukers. If you plan on adding s/s masteries...pass on ice...but if going spear, then get ice for the defense buffs, frost nova series (bk 2 - only need lvl 1 in book 1) and bk 2 ice nuke (only need lvl1 on bk 1 ice nuke in order to get bk 2) - book 2 is nice for clearing a group of lower lvl mobs fast. you'll need the frost nova stuff to slow down giants every once in a while.
You could always equip a s/s if spear but you'd lose a little off of your nukes & have no weap skills but gain greater defense and the almighty block factor. Someone told me that once...but only thing is I can't find a decent enough sword I want to use!
You get spoiled by those sos spears when trying to nuke with anything else...
