Racial remarks....

Post by clarencekuna »

so I decide to buy silk cause I need the GT and the revival clock (the pet was a gift from an old friend but that doesn't mean he'll sponsor me the clock). Lucky for me, in Malaysia you can buy the A-Cash Maple Story prepaid card and use it to buy silk, at any stores listed in the website.

there i was, walking into the bookstore (Popular Book Store in Malaysia: exact location, South City Plaza, Seri Kembangan). Asked the girl in counter for the card, beside me was a guy working at the store.

When I asked for the card, the guy said something to the girl in Chinese that is racist (said "this 'black ghost' plays the game too?" ,which was very rude, if you translate "black ghost" to Chinese.) I'm an Indian, and that remark was a known racist statement towards us.

and two, is it wrong for Indians to play games, or buy A-Cash cards for the game?

It's sad to see this kind of attitude in real life, and in the game too.....

yeah it's part of life i guess

the other thing I don't get it is that the Chinese here, at least most of them, thinks that MMORPG is "their game" and to see people like me playing it and own them, as a taboo.....hence comes the remarks. that's why I hate going to cyber cafes and play there

that's not racist words, but it is common for chinese to use the terms which we speak among each others. i.e. black ghost is negros and not indians.

perhaps they seldom came across indians who play online games like chinese/malay does. so as for me i would have the first thought as the same way as the guy do...

they could have used "this guy" instead of black ghost, its obvious they used it as a demaning racial remark.

yeah but the least he could have done is say "this guy" instead of using rude remarks like that, and he should not have assumed that i don't understand Cantonese.

"hak kwai" has been used since my childhood years and everybody around knows it's a racist remark thrown at us Indians cause of our skin colour, even my Chinese friends said so.

Actually No, because the similarity with Nepal's people and Chinese or any Oriental, is like 99%

They look similar as fuckin hell, and they are treated equally, can't speak for ALLLL the nepali's, but in majority, it works out as a pretty peaceful community, although i will say.

Indians are no less assholes when it comes to talking :P

Just to add my two cents - chavs cannot be compared to any race or class as they are neither. Chavs choose to be chavs, they are not born like it.

If you do wish to draw a comparison, in the UK, Chavs generally represent the misguided youth 'culture' (used in the very loosest sense) of the working class, but can actually come from all walks of life.

In a similar way, the so called 'Goths' (although the term angers me as 'real' goths are a million miles away from your average teen emo wannabe) could be the representation of the middle class youth. However, your average goth kid will tell you that he is the opposite of what a chav is (the two factions hate each other) yet behave in completely the same manner. Hypocrites.

So, as neither party can be considered a class or race I feel perfectly comfortable to say that I hate 'em both. DIAF.

Chavs choose to be chavs, they are not born like it.
and how do you think this so called "culture" began?

chav's were formed of not from "misguided youth" .

They are “now mostly” formed under choice and choose to join in this “culture”, but originally came from underprivileged families struggling to make “ends’ meat”.

Basic nature of all of us to defend what we come from, all be it they may have gone about this in a rather rash and balls’y way but they are what they are.

And to merely say all emos/goths are from mild class and chavs working class is complete bollocks and not to mention part of the inherent racial problem this thread is based on “judging people from what they see” and thus makes your argument floored from the get go.

having made documentaries on different cultures in today’s society (all be it amateur and for my own grades), your above statement is appalling and shows complete misunderstanding, interpretation and if fact racism itself.

next time keep personally opinion to your person. *rant over*

Sorry if I've offended you with my personal opinion. I certainly didn't intend to do so. However, I don't think my critique deserved such a hostile response. I certainly am not in a position of misunderstanding.

For starters, I am completely against racism or prejudice of any form, but my above philosophy was not inherently racist. A person does not choose the location of their birth or their initial social status or their sexuality. Because of this, nobody has the right to judge them based on these factors.

However, a person is not born a chav, a goth, a townie, a geek, etc. Thier personality may draw them to one particular lifestyle more than another, but ultimately you make a choice to lead the lifestyle you want based on your tastes, preferences and ideologies.

In the case of chavs and goths, I dislike them because they have conciously made such a choice. They are part of a scene or movement which represents a distinctive view on life, and their view from my perspective is arrogant and closed-minded to the point of ignorance.

I'm not criticising their taste in music or clothes, etc. (for example, I enjoy metal and am in fact quite partial to gothy-looking clothes) I'm criticising the way they treat others and their general disrespect.

Sure, I'm stereotyping, but I'm afraid that is based solely on experience. I can honestly say that I have only met a handful of people who fall into the 'chav' demographic that I could actually consider to be nice people. And yes, I have met several 'goth' teenagers who are respectful, polite members of society. On the whole though, I feel very sorry for the children and the elderly in my nearest city who walk in fear of the chavs and goths loitering around, vandalising and troublemaking.

So again, I apologise for any offence caused, particularly if you consider yourself a part of either lifestyle. However, I maintain my opinion based on the evidence I've seen and will continue to share it with anyone, regardless of whether it is considered controversial. In other words, no, I won't keep it to myself.

Meh... whenever i speak chinese i refer to everyone by their race/country too... it's kinda built into the language to refer to "outsiders"(ie. non-chinese) by their respective descriptive term to distinguish between them.

Now, don't get the wrong idea I have nothing against any of the races listed above, but I do believe this is where racism is coming from, certain people thinking it makes them "Better" than others.

Holy crap...

So many Indians playing SRO. Shit.

Shit because I am the only Indian who plays MMORPG, or any other games for that matter in my Indian friend circle.

Anyway on topic,

That is just bad refering to anyone by racial slurs.
Do not ever shop there find other shop no matter if you have to walk two miles to go there and buy from there. Before you do that go to that store and tell that Mama kiss why you choose not to shop there, fillout a complain mentioning exactly what happend. And never go back there.

I never realise the handful of us playing this game are Indians...... :P

anyway, like I said I almost punched the sucka's face, shove an umbrella up his arse hole and open it.....

It's the nearest place for me to get the card, but I won't go there anymore. Used to like that bookstore cause sometimes they have books I couldn't even find in Kinokuniya *sigh*
