Yeah I know, seems like this is a $$$,$$$,$$$ build. But it's fun and is nice to look at :) Did i say it right ? 1:2, str/int ... int heavy hybrid. I really like the sword, and I got it for a good deal I think, 6.5 mil. I'm able to kill stuff about 6 lvls higher easily unless they group up on me.

how does anyone who hasnt played for years afford SOS without buying gold? for that matter how do you buy wep elixirs ect. the economy is screwed.

anyway lets compare 2 ways to spend your money (since im facing this situation myself as my friends have bought gold and they better customer service than with JM).

+ joymax gives you stuff to make grinding more bearable
gold-ticket
rabbit / squirrel
repair hammer

-buying gold gives you stuff to have fun with.
to quote alot of people "gear>build"
operating expenses matter less you can actually play.

im still up in the air myself. ive seen the gold farming bots at the chajkis and they're better than KSing bow players. none the less its easy for someone whos played forever to sit back and say "gold buying is lame" try making a new char with no help from your higher level character. or no as bluesy put it "rich friends".

not a flame just an opinion :).

He already passed that lvl. (look @ picture and you see he is lvl 24?)

I don't get it why people buy gold. I started with nothing, but when I have my sets complete I will show them too. All gained without buying any gold. It is more fun if you get whatever you got by the 'honest' way then buying in my opinion.

I can sell it all again for 20 mil I'm sure, and put it towards higher lvl gear. Buying gold at the beginning to get you started seems ok, even more so with joymax's item mall system. I mean, you could buy a bunch of stuff from the mall and sell it for gold, so you would be paying for gold in a sense. You cannot tell me that joymax would have thought of the item mall system before all this selling of gold, etc on ebay and such. Free game, $$$ toys. It's pretty dang smart.

joymax isnt doing anything to fix it. lets say all the gold bots dissapeared. the prices would still be high. very very very rarely do prices rise due to inflation then lower later on. everyone says "zomg dont buy gold" but has no reasonable solution.

and joymax could do a number of things to fix it.

- increase drop payoffs to compensate for inflation (unless their code base sucks, this would take about 1 to 2 hours)

- increase price npcs give for items (id say 8 hours of coding at the most)

- decrease sale price of potions and pills (30 minutes of coding)

obviouslly i havent seen their codebase. so im making the assumption they keep all their pricing in a database and not in the actual application itself, since that would be just dumb lol.

gold buying is lame and supports botting (goldbots). They screw up the economy.

I've leveled 2 characters, never bought gold and never botted.

It's done with 'work', something too many people in the game know little about. There is no I win button in this game.

I'm alot more impressed with people that get by with crap gear than those that insist on all 'leet' gear.

Congrats on your set, and i agree that it is easier to start the game with gold but......

There are alot of ways to make gold in game, just study the economy and be smart and you will never have to buy money again.

its a game, not a job. yeah its great to be a challenge. however when you got a lvl 60 theif spawning theives in low level areas to watch the npcs kill players for fun. kind of takes the fun game part out of it.

try making a completely new char today. no gold from your previous characters. and gold doesnt give you good gear. it gives you money for pots and wolves and stuff. no way a bow is worth 12 dollars.

a concept im working on is making a group that covers traders base expenses to do a trade. basically myself and whoever i can find as hunters will escort them. yep itll be financed with bought gold because high level players who complain about gold bots and everything else in the game wont do anything. it leaves the new players to do something.

none the less, hunter group pays base cost for the trader to do a 2 star trade (this assume under level 30). this should encourage more people to do trading. granted im sure there are bunch of lvl70 vets who just cant wait to kill level 20s over and over again, but i think covering the cost of trader will it make worthwhile for people since they wont lose money.

I don't disagree that it's easier with gold. However my current character earned me all my gold (i did buy a 42 sos spear with gold from my first character, but it wasn't 'necessary', I bought a 52 one with what I made leveling). I had almost nothing on my bow character. This one found lots of items (no sos), I npc'ed EVERY one until the late 50's. The event that you could get job items helped me alot too. I got a couple job items every day.

SOS is a luxury item, you do not need it to play the game.

As for starting a new character from scratch, I made one on ElDorado server recently and got to 16. I have 450k on it. and I didn't start farming (which will make alot of gold). Not bad for 3 days.

Don't tell me you can't make gold, that's just not true. I didn't even buy/resell things or sell my elements (on Troy), which I could have.

It may be a luxury item, but 50% of the pvping people in the game have at least 1 item that is sos, making it that much harder to pvp. Seeing as thats my reason for playing sro, it has become more of a need then a luxury. >.>

at level 20 how many trade runs you think you can do before you go broke? i had about that much with my first char at lvl 18, when i got to level 20 though, trying to trade burned through it so fast.
- transports
- paying hunters
- potions for yourself and your transport
- pills
- price of goods

it adds up fast

personally i have a bunch of npc gear and some blues and +1s that i found cheap at stalls. i dont think SOS is needed at lower levels to pvp. if its a battle where both are using pots and pills i can typically beat people who have sos items and are at my level. in the lower levels it can be more about what skills you have and how you use them. in the higher levels it seems to be all about your gear.

trade runs are your problem, they don't make you any money at low levels. Grind on green mobs.

Instead of NPCing gear break it down into elements and sell those. Use stalls overnight and while you are at work/school.

Don't put attributes on gear yourself, it's cheaper to buy it that way.

PvP is a waste of time, you inevitably have some high level in noob gear faking being a low level, its the only way he can win. Even if someone isn't pretending you always get someone 20 levels higher than you that kills everyone and calls them noob for being low level. But hey if you're into that more power to you.

What I can say about Sox is that 8D sostar +5 gear < 3rd tier +3. SoM+3 is about equal to 3rd tier +3, SoSun is > tier 3. In my opion thats good news for the 'average' player.

I bought gold when I was a noobie. It was good way to get started I guess, but not essential.

Just like RL though, it's a lot easier to make money if you have some money already.

Not that I support buying gold, it does screw everything up. Flame me if you like, I didn't know any better.

These days I move more gold daily than what I bought at lvl24 to get an sos bow.

Job suits made it really easy but that's over. Want to be a rich legit noob? Start a new char when the next event begins, assuming they do job suits again.

so basically, having fun playing the game is a waste of time, just grind.

i agree on the part about upgrading your own gear lol. lucky powder adds up fast. gotta save all your elements and lucky powder for putting ice resistance on your gear.

ive had lots of fun pvp fights. just a matter looking at the eqiupment someone is using / what attacks they are using / what their imbue level is / what their buff levels are.

Well look at it this way, get rid of most of the bots, theres half the gold selling market, though some companies use real people to farm gold so....no full proof
