More or less. I could post a link to a strange website, and most people would have no problem going there, I've established that I am annoying, but otherwise not a very evil person.
However, if you posted a link to a site no one knows, people would be much more suspect, the post count would be part of it.

as an admin on another phpBB site, i think what probably happened is this: phpBB has an auto-pruning option that can be set for any forum on the site that will automatically delete threads that are so many days old. it seems like the oldest posts in OT are being removed... that explains why my post count wasn't affected much, because i seldom post there. dunno for sure if that's what happened, but it's a possibility.

Thx IceCrash for my awesome sig :)

I have one too. I accidentally turned on the auto-pruning with weird settings, and then 80% of the posts disappeared. xD Luckily I had backed up the database earlier that day, so everything was restored.
I took a long break. 4 months of jSRO, 2 months of no SRO.
I level up slow because either..
A) I decide to have fun instead of grinding
B) I am SP Farming
C) I keep on getting killed

might want to go through and make back ups of the guides and other important threads just incase.
meh, i've stooped under 2k posts, cant even remember whati h d before.
doesn't matter, it's the name of the poster that counts

Doesn't look good. And not what you want to hear.
Nope. The admin panel shows all pruners off. I have never enabled pruning on the board.
I pruned screenshots today, but crossover is impossible. They are different tables.
A global mod or admin could do it by hand deleting every thread. Highly doubtfull, no motive, very time consuming and we have trusted mods.
You could speculate a hack, but thats nearly impossible. PHPBB thread stitchings are so intricate, you couldn't cleanly 'delete' threads like that without screwing the entire forum. Threads are associated to posts and posts individually associated with threads, individually associated with authors.
So at this point, Im really not sure. Maybe the board gliched and did prune that section. Can't imagine how, but apparently it has been done.
Looking through backups we have one from end december, the monthly backup. But to 'import' a whole database would mean losing a month of all forum data.
I'll keep looking into a cause.
I understand losing some thousand posts hurts; posts are often looked at a 'social status' or ranking in a community. And the content lost hurts too.

Ryoko to the rescue :)
In all seriousness, people, mourn your lost posts if you must, but let's just keep doing what we're doing, which is creating the single most read forum on SRO on the intarwebbs ;)
