Buyer Beware - Item mall scams

Post by Ryoko »

The new item mall features have lead to a new wave of scams.

Items such as 1000 HP kits and 10K arrow packs will tell you how many are in the pack. It will say 'Quantity 1000' and not 'Quantity 1'. Be carefull buying these items. I got ripped because I didn't quite understand either, and there was only 1 HP potion in each.

So buyer beware. You were warned.

I found this picture really funny. LOL some people just can't be helped. Thanks to Xenogrant for submitting this. :D

I can't stop laughing.

This is a shop character The name is Lat_shop

I'm adding this in here even though it isn't the pot stacks, but a scammer regardless.

It was a couple hours ago, but I'm pretty sure this was a main character. I know it's hard to read, so his name is Mychisus.

That a bit different.

This guy using misunderstanding of '1000 pack' and selling ONE potion for 150-250K

I used pack once and it went away. Both packs bogus - 300K lost.

It would be nice if they had made the pack of pots remain a pack, but when you separate out one pot it should just come out looking like a potion.

Just make it so there is always only one pack for the pots - so you would not be able to separate out more than 50 because you would need the pack to store more than 50.

Meh.

Hm... One time I labeled my stall "Overpriced Shit" and then put in the message, "Seriously, it's overpriced. :P". Then I marked everything up about 4-5 times and opened, and it was all gone when I came back in the morning.

no way. supply and demand, bro. you are capitalizing on a market niche and adjusting your prices accordingly. i think it's a grat strategy. it's not like you're selling "magical Hotan arrows, do 2x more dmg!!!11"

It's not exactly a scam if it says 1 arrow or 1 potion. It's a buyer at fault for being uninformed. It's not the sellers fault if the buyer doesn't know what he's buying.

Minus the numbers involved, not everyone speaks English and may just be clicking on random stalls trying to find what they are looking for. So they may not understand the disclaimer (and think the 1 stands for how many bags, not how many items within it).

And still its a scam...they are willingly selling stuff that they know is not what they say it is. They separate it up to packages of 1 unit and sell it for a price that would fit a 1000/10000 pack.

And their shopnames are usualy something like " 1000 POTS for 30K" orso...so you would expect to get 1000 pots.. :x

it's Ctrl+click. it'll auto-buy the max stack of the item. it also works for selling items back to npc at the default selling price; hold Ctrl+click and it'll sell it w/o giving you the price and quantity dialogs.

Actually, im thinking this guy Xeno_Mule had a couple of options in his stall up.

a couple that's actually 1000... and that was for 33k.. and a couple for 1's, for 33k.

then put up the warning in forum...

people see it... then they wanna buy the 1000 quick before it disappears.

dunno

just my guess

it's not scamming if you're selling thief suit for 20k, is it

10k for suit already.

and i think it's an additional 10k to transport to the bandit den for the very first time.

I saved my friend from this earlier last night. We were on venice and he tells me that a dude is selling 1000bag pots for 15k and he wants to know if I want him to pick one up for me. I ask him what it says there quantity was and it was 1 instead of 1000 :)

Wow, glad I saw this post. I almost fell for this the other night, but I decided to save my money, as 30k seemed like a lot. This seller had one side of potions, one side of the quivers. That wouldn't have been a fun loss. But, lesson learned.

If you guys haven't seen it yet, there's even sadder attempts at scamming now. everybody knows(or should) that the item mall items can't be traded anymore. so what is a poor scammer to do? i know! sell ONE REGULAR ARROW for 50k, hoping someone will see it and be completely oblivious to the fact it doesn't even LOOK like a real 10k quiver.

and not only that, but what the hell, let's price one of them for 200k instead, RIGHT NEXT to the others. maybe they'll buy that one, thinking they're special or something....

anyways, this is just sad. so, if you happen to see PutuBlay on Troy, let em know how ya feel about it. Oh, did i mention this same person pulled a one-star pop on my wife the other night? eh, imagine my surprise that they were scamming....
