Since the game is a persistent world, the game is also continuously updated to keep players interested. Silkroad does this by motivating you to grind so that you can gain access to new PvP skills, a sense of accomplishment that all that grinding was worth it, and the main focus, an overall advantage over the rest of the server in the PvP aspects of the game because of your level. A player who grind's to level 80 legitly will probably continue to play because of the time they invested in the game while a botter or someone who bought an account will most likely get bored in the coming months from attaining the level cap too fast or already being a high for all ready experiencing what the game has to offer. Also because they don't have the since of accomplishment that a legit player has after putting in the time and effort into reaching level 80.
You don't have to be a high level in Silkroad to have fun. Its possible to have fun at lower levels. Certainly, the benefits and fun factor of being a higher level are much better than a lower level but you can still have fun. I know people who have been 2x and 3x for about 3 or 4 months now and still have fun playing.
No one says you have to reach level 70 in 1 month or 2 months. No one says you have to reach xx level in xx amount of days. You play when you feel like it or whenever you can.
For some MMORPG's bots mess up the game's economy, the update schedule, or can even destroy a game.
Its just simple microeconomics of each server's economy. At the start, there was no demand for gold. Someone started gold bots and found a market for their product. Their market was probably a group of people to lazy to grind and earn gold their selves and needed an easy way to get gold. These players, no longer legit, caused prices to rise and made it very hard to afford sos or any else type of good gear in game. Some of the legit players didn't like the fact that they struggled to buy the good gear so this gave them a reason to buy gold also. This in turn, hurted those that continued to play legit the most.
People that use bots to level can throw off the game's update schedule. A company may be forced to release a new area ahead of time than they had planned for in order to compensate for the crowded areas and player complaints. In Silkroad's case, they chose not to change the update schedule. The players were left suffering because there was a extraordinary amount of players at the game's level cap that shouldn't have been there. Jobbing is another form of PvP in Silkroad. Players that botted to 70 made jobbing much harder for lower levels than it should have been. Without the bot program, there would probably be only be a handful of level 70's around August and October instead of over crowded grinding areas and ruined PvP. This would also take the hassle off Joymax from dealing with player complaints and quitting allowing them to put more of their resources into more positive aspects of the game.
The worst part that can happen is the destroying of the game. Developers discontinue development for the game because its has become to corrupt to be saved or the capital needed to invest in cleansing the game could be better used elsewhere.
I'm not going to elaborate on the other negative sides of botting because it has already been said.
If your life is to time consuming to play or you're just too lazy, you shouldn't be playing MMORPG's. Their job is to consume time, keep you logged in, and wanting to come back. If you bot levels, babysit your bot sometimes, constantly checking to see how much exp or sp you earned, what level you are today, then who is truly the MMORPG addict?
And no, having a "life" still does not and never will justify botting. If you cannot find a way to integrate playing legit into that wonderful "life" you have, then don't play.
