Using stones on equiptment

Can an item be destroyed when using a stone on it? I know when using elixers on it it can, but how about stones?
I recently bought a very nice lvl 18 +5 blade and added a few blues, but I'm wondering if its safe to keep adding?

Any answers will help :) thanks

you can add some but if your luck is bad it might get rid of the blue you had on their
