Crazy is what drives the world.
There's no such thing as pointless research.

I don't agree... There's lots of Pointless/Useless research.

How long does it take YOU to go? Researchers claims all animals from elephants to cats take exactly 20 seconds to relieve themselves

Researchers say 20 seconds is optimum time to avoid predators
Urethra sized developed to allow any sized animal to empty its bladder in 20 seconds

Read More Here
So, what's the point of "pee" research? To avoid predators?

- Possibly related to territorial marking habits.
- Yes indeed to avoid predators.
- "researchers say the strange finding could actually be useful - by teaching engineers how nature uses gravity to regulate flows of liquid."
- Points to possible shared ancestor.

besides, who even said the research was focussed on this? Might as well have been an accidental finding along the way of a greater research.

I guess you are referring to research along the lines of the ones that are being conducted in the global warming field, but no, that research is not pointless.

It serves to introduce modern original sin.

Some researches that was utterly pointless (or appeared so) ended up having their data being quite useful later on for some other study...

Such research has already been made before.... But It Took one second longer "21" lulz

That's nothing new, till it turns out it's unrelated after all. needs more research :sohappy:
- "researchers say the strange finding could actually be useful" I don't know what's so strange about it?I like how you ignored the relevant part of this quote?
- Points to possible shared ancestor. Of what?Of aforementioned animals. Or indication of convergent evolution

Might as well have been an accidental finding along the way of a greater research.
Such research has already been made before.... But It Took one second longer "21" lulzaverages son. for every 21 seconds there was one that took 19.

Average life expectancy over the last 100 years disagrees that research is pointless.

Yeah, but then you have these idiot moms who decide that they don't want to vaccinate their kids and cause a measles outbreak. They didn't much care for research.

Maybe because... they are frightened about all the risk ? So, some choose not to vaccinate because of their fear.
Btw: Vaccines doesn't provide lifelong protection, which means you can still get measles.

@ poehalcho Next time it would take 5 seconds. Right?

The real question is; Is this thread pointless?

Also to have the audacity to think this thread is more useful than research

Ask yourself this question: Have you ever found yourself standing outside in freezing temperatures, barely clad with any form of clothing, and been unable to figure out why you were cold?

Aside from that one Christmas when you woke up naked in the snow bank, you probably have never asked yourself this, and for good reason. You understand how clothing works. It took an entire research team from the School of Archaeology and Anthropology at the Australian National University to figure out the same theory.

In their study of Aborigines, they found that natives living in colder areas would often wear more clothes than those living in warmer areas. While the conclusion was painfully obvious, this study would be skewed heavily if it was done in the Midwestern United States as everyone wears shorts because they’re too drunk to feel the cold.

This world is full of unexplained phenomena, some of which may never have answers, and some of which demand them. But one question that required no answer whatsoever?

It’s the very topic of Nagoya University’s Department of Complex Systems study: Why do traffic jams happen when there is seemingly no reason for it? For years, this has fallen under the same category as questions like “Why is the sky blue?,” “How do birds fly?,” and “Why do people keep asking questions that have been answered centuries ago?”

Thankfully, this study gave us a clear-cut solution to the apparent traffic conundrum. What they find may shock you, so please brace yourself. As it turns out, traffic jams often occur because there are a lot of cars driving slowly. Don’t forget to check out their follow up research project, “Why can you run faster when you’re not standing in line?”

This is most likely not a clothes study at all but a mispresented study on aborigines behaviour. And even if it wasn't... well you learned something about aborigines behaviour. Those guys don't exactly wear a lot of clothes in the first place. It's probably hard to discern between accessory type clothes and clothes intended to keep the individual warm in their case as well.

The answer I was expecting was actually badly programmed traffic lights, so there ya go. Learned something new.

From the excerpts that you quoted, it's most likely the case that you're getting your science tid-bits from press releases and not actually full-featured scientific papers. Popular news outlets and other mediums that cater to the layman will most likely never make an article on some overly verbose study on whatever it is that's actually being researched. Instead, scientific articles are cherry-picked for their sexy bits and other consumer-friendly footnotes that the common person can relate to because that will attract the most eyeballs to their website or product, meaning their business prospers. The dumbed-down, Fisher Price article you're reading on that trivial study is more often than not a small part of a larger, more meaningful project.

TL;DR-
If you get your science learnin' from the same place you get celebrity gossip, you're gonna be disappointed.
