90,000 people each weekend, it's pretty diverse. I've met people from Australia, Norway, Germany, Brazil, Canada, and all over. White people, black people, yellow people, purple people. Shit like race and ethnicity doesn't matter at Coachella. It all comes down to: Are you a good person to be around? If so, you'll be fine. If not, you might run into problems.

Is there crime? I feel like with that many people in one place it's inevitable.

There's crime in the sense that people are sneaking in and selling/using drugs.

As far as thefts and shit, I haven't experienced it. The past three years I've left many valuables at camp and no one has touched them. It's sort of an unspoken code that you just don't do that shit. Plus neighbors and everyone around you end up looking out for each other, so they know when someone they don't recognize is acting shady in our camp.

We usually sneak our pipe and weed in through the little pocket in your underwear over your gooch. My friend had his there and after we had gotten inside, maybe 10 feet past the actual gates, he thought he dropped everything so he starts feeling around inside his pants and it looks fishy. He finds the pipe and weed and puts it in his pocket and a second later 3 people are on us, putting his hands behind his back, pushing us away, and flashing badges. They were undercover cops. The most low key undercovers I'd ever seen.

They talk to my friend and ask him what he has. He says it's just marijuana so they reach in his pocket and check. They go, "Oh...this is really all you have? Do you have your medical card?" So he shows them and they go, "Oh, well here you go why are you worrying then" and give him the pipe and weed back. They told us to not be so obvious about it and that's about it.

They want the harder stuff or the dangerous stuff like bombs and knives and whatnot.

I'm legal on a state level. It's still illegal federally, but I like to think they're not going to waste their time with the random user when they have much bigger fish to fry like the actual grow ops.

I see it more as an escape from life. At Coachella there's no worries, it's love all around, there's no responsibility other than having the best possible time you can, and it's just about being away from the hustle and bustle of day to day life and spending that close quality time with friends and family.
