An ambitious project known as Outernet is aiming to launch hundreds of miniature satellites into low Earth orbit by June 2015
Each satellite will broadcast the Internet to phones and computers giving billions of people across the globe free online access
Citizens of countries like China and North Korea that have censored online activity could be given free and unrestricted cyberspace
'There's really nothing that is technically impossible to this'
You might think you have to pay through the nose at the moment to access the Internet. But one ambitious organisation called the Media Development Investment Fund (MDIF) is planning to turn the age of online computing on its head by giving free web access to every person on Earth.
Known as Outernet, MDIF plans to launch hundreds of satellites into orbit by 2015.
And they say the project could provide unrestricted Internet access to countries where their web access is censored, including China and North Korea.

If its free they must want people to use it more then they want money. And there must be a reason they want us to use it. Easier to spy on us all >:|. I agree though, sounds too good. I mean those satellites cost money I assume? Whats in it for them to make hundreds and provide this free service. ¬.¬

If they are satellites I doubt they will blow them out of the sky. Nothing's ever free either but I can hope. If I had wifi at work I'd be so happy.

Wasn't there a fear of running out of global bandwidth or something not long ago? Now we're essentially trying to connect everyone online to suck up a shit ton of bandwidth?

If this is true, when things are normally free, they make money through people advertising. You'll probably get a lot of pop up adds or something.

My thoughts exactly...prepare yourself for the spam of a lifetime...Nothing is really free... I've read Google is running a pilot project to do the same thing but with high altitude hot air balloons...Their concept is to circle the globe with them....

Won't a few people downloading some torrents make it impossible for everyone else to do anything, if this ever becomes reality, people will abuse it as much as possible

I'm excited about this. If everyone in the world gains internet access, the sudden influx of african americans on the internet might just give sro the boost it needs to revive, and start a legit confederation 2.0.

North Koreans would repopulate KSRO. But before that happens, someone would need to hand out free PCs too.

If people swore their allegiance to me, I'd provide them with PC's/Internet.
