Why does SRO suck?

I mean really. Why? How? In what way, shape, or form does it suck? I see alot of things claiming it has "shitty" service in one way or another, but how does it? The ONLY time I have ever been mad at SRO is when I was grinding once, and out of NOWHERE a notice said "Silkroad Online is shutting down in 1 minute. Please Log off now to ensure all character data is saved." after I had been on ALL day, and was almost lvl'ed. Only time. how do botters affect ME or MY gameplay? Sure, I don't like, nor reccomend someone to bot. I don't like what botting promotes, because I like to work my ass off to see benefits in my character. And how does CCF hurt me in any way, shape, or form? Someone will probably say something like "wait till you're a higher lvl....noob...go play wow... ahaha." or something along those lines, but how is me being capped going to affect MY views on SRO, CCF, Botting, and the like?? I play SRO for the fun-factor, for the awesome feeling at looking at what I have created (i.e. my character lvl, character stats, how good in pvp or pve i am getting, keeping up or surpassing guildies, things like that), and for the intense 3-way job system. I love thieving... Pure and simple. Thieving in SRO gives me a great feeling and thats all I can say lol. This game has it's drawbacks im sure, but, the graphics are tight, the gameplay is tight, the sounds are tight, the mythology behind it all is very well put together, and on TOP of all this glory, it is related to REAL LIFE HISTORY!!!! Unlike WoW or that other dribble lol. Naw im j/k im not gonna put down WoW considering I've never played it. But SRO is Free to Play. And the amount of silk that I buy wouldn't even get me a month's worth of WoW play time.

Im not old enough to OWN my own Credit Card.
And I am computer-illeterate to the point, that I wouldn't know WHERE to find botting programs/botter support sites.

So I don't see how Botting/CCF/super awesome +9'ed gears or w/e would affect ME. lol.

So maybe for others this game's "service" is shite, but for me...I've had FEW complaints as of yet. (Started playing in March. Quit for a few months. Started playing again in July, all this year, 2006. And I've had like 7 or so different characters, on about 3 or 4 different servers.)

So whatever I just dont get it, I SRO. And will continue to play it until A.)Im bored of it. B.)Im too "old" for it (which would be an excuse for me being bored with it ) or C.) I have to focus intensely on my school and real-life for so long, that when I return to SRO, things feel...different...Hehehehe.

Ok so, I like grinding because I enjoy watching my character grow, And I like THIS MMO more than anyone I've played (except for GunZ I liked GunZ more, but I can't play that game on my computer, my comp blocked it somehow or something and now I dont know how to get it to work. which gives me more time for SRO. .) *read the part above about my computer-retardation. I wouldn't know how to fix it if it was to save my life lol.*

(And for those who say botters take up too much space in grind areas uhm... WTF? Would you prefer a private server??? So you have to run a little further, take a little longer, and things like that, to finish your quest.? To lvl up? To farm that sp? Uhm. So what, big deal... *IMO*)

I don't get discouraged when I see a botter, I get more intense in my grind, to out-kill him, to do better than him lol. NO I DO NOT SUPPORT BOTTING, In fact I am anti-botter type person, well, I support the 'idea' that is, a no-botting form of SRO. hehe.

I actually agree with most everything you said.

I think people start to get mad at botters, and cffers when they are taking this incredibly seriously. I don't even care about botters because i'm really not that competitive to be the best I guess. I just care about playing and getting myself better knowing that later on when those botters get high lvles every1 already knows they arnt legit.

Botting really does take up server space, and cffing ruins they economy.

I've had much more problems that that error you got. Once tiger girl spawned right next to me and before she was killed, and I got the ?????????? error twice in a row right next to her><

But other than that I spend 5$ on silk for gold tickets everynow and then. And I agree theivng is really fun. The graphics are tight, and everthing else you siad was true.

But trust me +9's will effect you if they are all over the place.

1. Random inspections, Please log out the server is shutting down now, or just random d/c
2. Botters bother you when you try job / guild wars and they have botted up 150k sp. While you have 50k.
3. CCF bothers you when botters have all +5 gear or more, with +7 or +9 weps.
4. In other games, WoW, the GMs came on yesterday, ran around casting spells that spawned decorations for the halloween event, 1 server at a time. They come when you need help, they ban botters, they have events often, one just ended, another has started. Once you pay for the game there are no ITEM MALL disadvantages. Gunz isnt an mmo really...
5. Silkroad isn't even halfway done, maybe when they have a real staff, and get closer to 1/3 the way done with the game it will be worth playing. Its like playing a WiP game...

Botting use to aggrovate me alot, untill all of a sudden theres like..1280348757857845 hackers taking peoples accounts and npcing everything they have and even selling their accounts.

I can KINDA live with botting, but I can't stand to be in a game, where you have to worry about the next account being hacked is yours.. That's what's wrong with silkroad out of everything, the hacking prevention system tool known as game guard isn't doing even close to the job that it's supose to..

go research the lore behind the warcraft series, its quite indepth, though not related to real life history. some of it is lore from the middle ages, etc.

technically, you can't buy exactly 130 silk since you can only buy in lots of 50, 100, 200, etc.
you have to buy:
150 =$15, for one month, leaving 20 left over
150=$15 for a second month, leaving a total of 40 left over,
100 = $10 for your third month leaving an extra 10 left over

thats $40 for 3 months. and thats only if you get the gold ticket.

40/3 = $13.33 for only gold ticket

most people also go for the monkey/squirrel (i know i did) which breaks down:(taking into account you don't already own a monkey/squirrel)

1st month: 100 silk=$10, 22 left over
2nd month: 50silk = $5, 2 leftover, total 24silk left
3rd month: 50 silk = $5, 2 leftover, total 26 silk lef

$20 for 3 months of with a squirrel/monkey with 26 silk leftover

20/3 - $6.67 for only your monkey

now if you do both monkey/squirrel and gold ticket you get:

1st month: 250silk =$25, 42 silk left over
2nd Month: 150silk = $15, giving total of 192silk buy gold ticket (130) and monkey clock (48) leaving you 14 silk.

I like this game because the graphics are so well done. And the animations are just perfect. The kung fu combos, the glaive hits, even the "hadouken" nukes animation are just beautiful.

I feel down with this game when i get lagspikes everytime, when i get ksed by a nuker bot (and all i can do is move on to the next mob, because i cant talk shit to him and just wont waste time grinding away murder points) and when i see all these badmannered players, thinking they are TEH BADASS just because they are too retarded to be educated or even learn anything else.

Besides all that, this game is teh coolest. I confess Jangan is a ..... beautiful city, the china side of the game (jangan side) is also very very good looking, the ravine, the tarim basin, the hotan surroundings and hotan itself, and not to forget the most beautiful place in this game, Karakoram.

I put more farking bug reports in to JM than I wish I had to, and they never do anything about it.

Sighting the usual, bots and lag, as the reason why and have left me as sole member of our guild

Yeah, so anyways there is nowhere to (ethically) sell gold so they gave me their gear, weaps and gold which I've turned into currency.

As well, I like to make high crit kikazz weaps, and sell in stall for profit.

In fact I was offered 70M over my purchase price of these two items already, but it aint gonna happen, I have 1-2 months sp farming to do before I sell, so.....

at the end of the day, it all boils down to ignorance.

most people ahve NO idea what goes into creating a game of this scale and complexity.
most people have NO idea how hard it is to achieve stability on such a large network of machines.
most people have NO idea how difficult it is to maintain, bug-test, trouble-shoot, monitor, patch, and expand a complicated piece of software.
most people have NO idea what is going on behind the scenes at JM and what work is being done.

All of these things get complicated by the fact that SRO is so popular. There are 10's of thousands of users spread across a dozen servers. all of those people expect to be able to play whenever they want, however they want, with no hassles, interruptions, setbacks, downtime, or grief. and most people have NO idea how impossible this is, especially in a game which, in case we haven't noticed, is NOT FINISHED.

botting is a problem. it is being worked on, i assure you.

lag and server congestion are problems. they are being worked on, i assure you.

how do i know these things? COMMON SENSE. i have been around enough to know that just because i can't see something doesn't mean it's not there. just because i don't have a JM employee emailing me hourly reports on their activities doesn't mean nothing's being done. just because i don't see any progress in my own gaming experience doesn't mean i'm being ignored.

do you all SERIOUSLY believe that after creating a hugely successful, rapidly expanding, immensely profitable game that they are all just hanging out in Rio, sipping mai tai's and laughing up their sleeves at our concerns and issues while the money from silk is pouring in?

It has almost been a year already and all the problems still exist to this day.

If JM and company can fix a bug in 15 hours,which is great, minimizing the amount of botters shouldn't be that much more difficult. CCFing on the otherhand I admit my ignorance. Is ccf somethign that JM can control? Or is it a CC jurisdiction? Finally, lag, well, every game has lag.

But all the problems are made worse by botters, whose large amounts contribute to lag, and who are the ones ccfing.

I think JM can't afford letting GMs go bot hunting, when there are more pressing issues at hand. Sure they could hire more, but what if it takes too long to train one, what if they need to have deep knowledge of SRO inner workings, what if they need to be highly prepared, etc..

What i'm trying to say is, if JM could fix the duping bug so "easily", then it probably can fix the botting issue too. They probably couldnt afford to allocate resources into that matter.

But didn't KSRO just block 5000 accs?

actually, you're right. i can't compare those two things. in order to make a proper comparison, i'd need to first BUILD the drill press from MOLECULES of steel and carbon, from the ground up, without any plans or blueprints except maybe an outline of what i want it to look like and do. that's basically what designing a piece of software is like. you have to piece together comparatively microscopic commands and pieces of code into a monstrous machine that could - as in the example of the drill press - have a very simple and precise function. using that same analogy, imagine that you had to build a car, or a jet plane, in the same way. just because i have a working knowledge of aeronautics and know HOW an airplane works doesn't mean i know how to build one to solve a particular problem or to carry a certain payload, or to be invisible to radar, etc.

so you see, just because a person has the MEANS to do a thing doesn't mean that it's necessarily as simple as black and white. remember that every piece of code has to be written by SOMEONE... thousands and thousands of lines of code may be required to do what you're proposing, and that stuff doesn't write itself. maybe - just maybe - that's what JM has been doing for all these months????

exactly. "What if no-one played WoW" Maybe Silkroad will become the next WoW. You never know. And anyone who doesnt want to know will definitely take a visit to the off-topic lounge, like i did at one time, and look at all u guys are saying about WoW. But if you want people to play WoW instead of SRO to enrich their gaming experience, i really dont think you'll meet all that many who are interested in general discussion. Thats my point of view.
