The same thought process could be used for robbing walmart.... But yet you probably wouldn't do it..hmmm

Huh? I don't really understand your point. What I meant to say is that piracy is not damaging the entertainment industry, because there are still companies that know how to convince people into actually buying their game. If your game gets downloaded a lot, you are doing something wrong as a company. Apparently you can't convince people that they are getting worth for their money.

The analogy isn't spot on but you could surmise the potential loss in funds to the creator to that of the loss in funds to the credit card holder...Not exactly the same but some similarities are there...

Your game being downloaded a lot could mean its that good as well... The point I was trying to make is that would you steal from Ikea or de Bijenkorf if you could easily get away with it? And use the idea that these guys are raking in billions to justify it?

Lets not kid ourselves here...just because its virtual/digital doesn't mean its not theft...someone is illegally distributing intellectual property/copyrights material for others to enjoy...

lol I agree with you and yes I have pirated microsoft's shit and I could care less because they're a colossal **** up and a vulture. I've spent enough money on them (and still do but slowly moving to Mac now). The thread started out with these Indy companies (up starts it seems
) trying to make a head-way into this business. Kinda shitty that pirating is preventing new entrants into the industry who are probably more creative than the existing incumbents/fuckups....I have a soft spot for the little guy what can I say...

People pre-order stuff all the time because they offer incentives along with it. Like for Mass Effect 3 they gave Battlefield 3 away for free. How the hell will someone know if its a shitty game if it isn't even out? Logic, you have none.

That's actually because reviewers will publish their reviews as late as possible so when you read them, you have already preordered. And reviewers will have to keep doing this if they want to keep their position as a reviewer.

Could you give a source to back this statement up? I've bought several games on steam that I had already pirated. I wouldn't have bought them at all if I had not pirated them first. This is the only way I will buy a PC game(less I know the franchise). I have yet to buy the heap of shit that is SimCity.

Music industry did a research on who bought more music was it pirates or normal consumers? It was
Spoiler!

I'm way too lazy to give a citation though. A german author gave his new novel out for free and ended up with far more sales for his previous books. There's quite of a bit of things saying piracy = more sales. Simple because word of mouth, they enjoyed the product, and they want more of it. However, there are people that just do it, because it's free and no one is going to slap their hand unless they distributed it themself or win the lottery of one of these guys going out and suing people.

Nuff said. Hypocrisy at it's finest.

You've shown absolutely no proof that piracy has caused any company to go out of business.(once again, piracy is not the same as stealing a physical items{or credit card numbers or bank accounts yada yada[it's dumb that I even have to elaborate on that]}.) Also, I've heard of several companies using piracy to their advantage. Example: 50 cent, who is now one of the riches rappers alive, said if they're stealing your stuff, you know you're doing it right, and it spread his music to the mainstream. That in turn helped him become as successful as he is today.

Yet again, you've shown you know very little about the issues, yet you seem so confident at handing out your opinion as fact.

You're mis-understanding me. Its obvious I am not 100% against pirating as you've pointed out my "hypocrisy". Companies that I end up pirating from (as you can see from my post) are ones that I have already supported for years... They've ƒucked around with my patronage and now deserve to be pirated...

My argument isn't in total favor of one side or the other if you're paying attention...or else I wouldn't have mentioned that I pirated from microsoft..or mention that I supported private SRO servers......I am more probing why others do it...

Aslo..I never said or claimed my opinion to be fact...don't know where u got that from other reading into shit too much....I merely ask probing questions to garner a response..Also don't know why are you asking me for proof of companies being destroyed by piracy because I wasn't discussing such extreme effects but rather the act being wrong or OK...

If you want facts I will give you facts...The truth is pirating affect the bottom line for all of these companies...The question is to what degree (which depend on numerous factors)....for some its insignificant while others (like upstarts) in can be very significant....

"once again, piracy is not the same as stealing a physical items{or credit card numbers or bank accounts yada yada[it's dumb that I even have to elaborate on that"

If for some reason you had a server in your home where lots of people are getting free copies of some game you had and for argument sake your operation was being monitored and reported and cops come to your house and find your whole setup, do you think you'd be able to convince them (or a court) that what you're doing isn't the same as stealing??...because its virtual and not physical??
