One suspect was shot and later died at Beth Israel Hospital. He had bullet wounds and injuries from an explosion, according to officials. The second man apparently escaped on foot.

-- The slain suspect was wearing explosives and a triggering device when he died, a source briefed on the investigation told CNN's Deborah Feyerick. Several sources identified him as Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26. He was the fugitive suspect's older brother.

-- Police swarmed over a Watertown, Massachusetts, neighborhood looking for the surviving suspect, identified by Boston police as Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, age 19.

-- Police ordered businesses in the suburb of Watertown and nearby communities to stay closed and told residents to stay inside and answer the door for no one but authorities. Boston authorities advised the same. The city's subway, bus and Amtrak train systems have been shut down. Taxi service across the city was suspended. Every Boston area school is closed.

The violence began late Thursday with the robbery of a 7/11 convenience store, according to Alben.

Soon after, in Cambridge, across the Charles River from Boston, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer was fatally shot while he sat in his car, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said in statement. Police believe the bombing suspects were responsible for the shooting.

The two suspects, according to authorities, then hijacked a car at gunpoint in Cambridge. They released the driver a half-hour later at a gas station.

As police picked up the chase, the car's occupants threw explosives out the windows and shot at officers, according to the district attorney's office.

Officers fired back, wounding one of the men, possibly the person identified by the FBI as suspect No. 1, who is seen in the images released Thursday in a dark cap, sunglasses and wearing a black backpack.

The man died at Beth Israel Hospital. He had bullet wounds and injuries from an explosion, according to officials. The second man apparently escaped on foot

Richard H. Donohue Jr., 33, a three-year veteran of the transit system police force, was shot and wounded in the incident and taken to a hospital, a transit police spokesman said Friday. The officer's condition was not immediately known.(He has died since this was posted on CNN)

Sandy Hook was a shitty conspiracy theory yes. And 9/11 wasn't like that.

And you never know. Because this guy says otherwise. :)

Federal terrorism charges against Boston Marathon bombings suspect Dzhokar Tsarnaev could be filed soon, even as he remains hospitalized, a Justice Department official told CNN on Saturday. The 19-year-old could also face murder charges at the state level.

Federal prosecutors are at the heavily guarded Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where Tsarnaev remains in serious condition while in federal custody, and they are working on formulating the charges.

For now, the government is invoking the public safety exception, a designation that allows investigators to question Tsarnaev without reading him his Miranda rights, a Justice Department official told CNN on condition of anonymity.

In ordinary cases, a suspect is told by police he has the right to remain silent and he has the right to a lawyer.

But this is not an ordinary case, say U.S. Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham.
They urged that Tsarnaev be held as an "enemy combatant," a designation that allows a suspect to be questioned without a lawyer and without being informed of his Miranda rights.

Sounds like they farked up and forgot to read him his rights and now they are making some shit up to cover their ass.

Alan Dershowitz, a prominent defense attorney and Harvard law professor, scoffed at the senators' statement.
"Impossible. There's no way an American citizen committing a domestic crime in the city of Boston could be tried as an enemy combatant," he told CNN's Piers Morgan. "It could never happen. And that shows absolute ignorance of the law."

This guy knows what's up and should be his defense attorney. What is he got off because he wasn't allowed his rights as an American?

I doubt they'd allow him to get off on that technicality. They'll bend the law if they have to in order to prevent that....

I was just watching the news about that exact situation, the reason his rights haven't been read is he could still have bombs planted and a plan still in action. It's called the public safety exception.

Why is it a good idea not to read the rights in that case?

Because he would have "the right to remain silent". If he has other bombs and such like Aventus said they would obviously want him to tell them. But what does that mean? How will they make him talk? A little torture?

I feel like if he had other bombs that he was planning to use, he would've already used them.

Though perhaps they want to if he and his bother were working with a group of people. Meh.

FBI Interviewed Tamerlan Tsarnaev 2 Years Ago

CBS News correspondent Bob Orr first reported, the FBI interviewed Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the elder brother of Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, in 2011
at the request of a foreign government to see if he had any extremist ties, but failed to find any incriminating information.

Re: Explosions at Boston Marathon

It's probably because most a lot of popular news sites are American so these things get more coverage, then people react more to those events because they see that everyone knows about it and others will understand them. For example if you cry about that post election violence in Venezuela on Facebook, people are going to be all like "what's that all about". And these events are expected to happen more in the less developed countries anyways, so such an event happening in a more developed country is more surprising and shocking as well.

Not to say its not important when bombs go off in these other places but you hear about it often. How much do you ever hear about bombs in America, not surprising if its all over the place, i'd say.

Anyway, I think Seth Macfarlane had somethin to do with it!

Anyway, when a tragedy like this happens, with public safety at risk.
"It should be a wake-up call" for the world. Unfortunately, events like this will happen again.
It could literally happen anytime, anywhere.

^These wake up calls don't seem to work however. When these things happen, people are all like "we got to do something about this", then it gets talked about alot and then people just go back to living the way they did before. And to other people it doesn't even change that much immediately after the event.
