Pure Int Spear or Sword

I was thinking of being either pure int spear or sword. i like the damage for spears and block for sword. also the advantages of the moves. spear has knockback and sword has knockdown and stab. i just want to see which build would be chosen or preferred.

They're both good. Just pick what you feel most comfortable with.

Spear: more damage, more hp (heuksal passive), but more vulnerable due to the lack of defence/shield

Sword: a bit less damage, less hp, but better defence due to the shield.

id say go for heuskal, ive got a lvl 48 pure int heuskal/fire/light, and right now hes pretty strong.

i tried using a sword and shield a few times but its usually the difference between 1 hit and 3 hits because if your pvping then they have time to heal.

so yea, id go with heuskal

the majority of people will tell you spear for PvE and s/s for PvP

and I agree the sword while it does less damage, will save your life ALOT due to the blocks

From what my guildies reoported it seems Spear is better for PvE.
However sword and shield is great for pvp bbut!! In pve the shieldd will save your ass.
Anyway after that,,its a matter of what u perfer

if youre going PURE INT, (no hybridizing at all), sword is definitely the way to go. You get the knockdowns, the blocks, and you can stop strs from criticaling too much with 100 crit on ur shield. Also spear pure int nukers will have a very tough time lvling when the Taklamakan comes out, since the low hp and low defence will mean they will die a lot. Most pure ints are already using sword and shield when they get to the DW Caves. But up to lvl 50 or 60, you definitely want to use a spear in pve. I found, though, that a good equips (at lvl 32 i had SOS +2 or +3/+4 without SOS on all my armor, +3 and 13 BR on shield, and +4 8 crit sword), a sword nuker is a bit better at pvp.

Well to be fair, I think his question was more directed as the comparison of "is more HP from passive better than a shield and less hp".

pur int spear die in 2 skills in pvp lol screw this man, go for sword, also u can add some nice bonus on shield str int crit..

LOL, both builds are the same, well if a pure int spear dies in 2 blows, a pure int sword will die in 2 as well unless they get a lucky block.. lol

In fact without block in the picture, the extra defense of a shield doesnt compare to 1k more hp, so there is no sense in stating that one build is better than the other.

IMO both builds are the same, it all depends on how you use them

if u have a sox shield 8th degree with 18+ block ratio go for sword ^^

I think pure int swords do better. Most sword nukers get hp passive anyway so thats irrelevent. Sword also gives the option of kd+stab so if you dont get a block chances are you could kd them, giving you time to pot.

I have played both and my personal preference is S/S. I am currently farming a lvl 39 S/S Pure INT Nuker and I can tell you, the shield will save you often. Also, if you get your rhythm down in pvp, using your nukes and KD+Stab, the other person barely ever has a chance to attack you. I have beaten several 40-42 Pure STR Glaive users because I was able to block or interrupt their best attacks, add that to the damage I could do with my fire/light nukes and freezing them with ice...they have a tough time.

Again, this is my personal preference, and I am not trying to say I am some uber elitest that can't be killed...I have died my share, but I will say I do much better in pvp than most of the Spear nukers I see around.

Most importantly, enjoy your build. You will never want to farm all the way to 70 and get the SP needed for a S/S Nuker if you do not enjoy the build.

If you would rather see the bigger Dmg numbers from your nukes and skills and be able to stun/knockback (which can be very handy for setting up a nuke) go for Spear.

If you want to be able to block, KD+Stab, etc, go for S/S.

Of course, the other option is to use both...Spear (few or no weapon skills) for more powerful nukes in PvE, and S/S (with KD+Stab skills) for PvP...it is totally up to you.

That is my personal thoughts/experience...now you decide
