Thoughts that make you feel antipathy
Inspired by reddit thread, I'm making this one. I guess in a way it's to get something off my mind...
anyway... let's discuss a little bit about thoughts that genuinely scare us.
Here's mine:
I guess it's a little silly, but what genuinely scares the living shit out of me right now is the thought of Windows 8 catching on.
With all the Apple users around, I've come to realize that people really are sheepish enough to fall for all the marketing tricks. To make it worse Microsoft is trying real hard with windows 8 marketing. It feels almost inevitable that it will catch on.
As a person who likes to use his PC for more than twittering his facebook off I am absolutely terrified. It's not the actual windows 8 that scares me, it's the fact that if it proves successful the line will continue. I can skip windows 8, I can skip windows 9 if I have to... but when windows 10 comes support for 7 will really start to disappear, programs won't work. If the good-bad windows algorithm is broken I really fear for the future of desktop computers ...no, the algorithm is still fine, windows 8 is perfectly shit as it should... but as shit as it may be if it sells it will have been a success for Microsoft and they'll continue the line.
There will come a moment where I'll have no other choice but to switch. The only hope I may have is that by then interaction with desktop computers will have evolved to a point where it may make sense to have touch-based hardware for a PC desktop.
I don't want to live a in world where computers are made for the computer illiterate D;

Re: Thoughts that scares you...
I thought this was going to be about things that are really scary... Getting shot multiple times and dying is what scares me... It's funny however how that thought is the farthest thing from my mind when I'm at the gun range firing off a few rounds... A perfect place for a wacko to make my fears come through...

It's very personal what scares you. For me this drastic change of direction of windows is the equivalent of owning a beautiful big house but then getting kicked out to live in some dreary shitty mini apartment because they want to wreck the house to build more dreary shitty apartments because they're in and marketed well.
It's a complete betrayal from microsoft's side. There's basically no friendly environment left for people who want to use computers a little more intensively. There's too many variants of linux to be of use and most of them are still too unstable. And no sane man will ever use an Apple OS on his desktop either. Windows has been the refuge for many a people, but now it's losing it's place, going the Apple direction because that's what finally became popular. Most people don't realize how annoying touchscreens actually are to work with. With button interfaces you could just operate your phone or mp3 player from your pocket, but touchscreens require you to take it out for every tiny little thing. But it's catching on even for desktops which have absolutely no use for it AT ALL. Not only will your monitor become uncleanable withing 2 weeks, but there's simply no excuse for making you switch between mouse, keyboard and monitor wiping all the time.
What it probably boils down to is that I'm actually scared of Human stupidity and the extent to which organizations are willing to go to get money...

I'm not afraid of anything that is typically related to computers. Lulz
Well, the thing that scares me the most... is the thought of anything bad happening to my
friends, family and "being hunted by - creepy zombies."

poehalcho I agree with you 100%. It normally wouldn't have crossed my mind like that, but now that you mention it I see your point.

It's a thought that has occupied my mind more than anything for a long while now. I admit it is silly, but it's been bothering me a lot. It's kind of a new low for humanity in my eyes. I don't want it to happen. Every time I think about it I'm left with pretty genuine I-don't-want-to-live-in-this-world-anymore feeling... I don't want my safehouse to dissapear
If it doesn't scare you then feel free to post your own fears...

If the pontential of what can happen from people being sheeps scares you then I'll agree....But you should be living in perpetual fear if that's what scares you....You should even be afraid of yourself...

Ah but it matters to which parts of life it happens.
TV has been shit for a while. But I can do without TV, I just watch good shows from abroad on my computer. Music has been turning a little bad, but there's always awesome obscure artists out there and with a computer you can find them.
An operating system however, at least for me, is a hard thing to change when the entire core is going to be so different. I use computers for everything, it's something I'm so used to... having the way my computer works altered means having absolutely everything I do altered to some extent. A large portion of my interaction with the world is to be change, and in my eyes it's definitely a change for the worse.
As for fearing myself? That's simply a pointless thing to do. As long as you don't easily get swayed by opinions/actions of others you should be able to judge things with a clear mind. People always join something that will benefit their lives. I perfectly understand that for many people windows 8 may be an improvement, it makes dealing with the trivial stuff (staying connected through social networks and whatnot) easy. Unfortunately it seems like it makes the more difficult stuff only harder to deal with. And for me who doesn't actually do anything with the trivial stuff, this is bad. And when I know I'm one of very few people who don't deal with the trivial stuff I know that w8 is going to be a bitch, that I'm outnumbered and that I'm at a large risk of losing something I don't want to lose for good :/

Well technology moves along and you cant really cling on to em, its like a really old man clinging on to his radio. I think Microsoft get too much of their $$ from business/professional use for them to become a consumer-only company

Re: Thoughts that scare/anger you...
That the volcano in Yellowstone will erupt.
The Yellowstone region is often referred to as a "supervolcano" because it has spewed more than 240 cubic miles (a thousand cubic kilometers) of ash and lava in a single event. The most recent of these massive blasts occurred some 640,000 years ago.
Re: Thoughts that scare/anger you...
I get kinda scared, sad and more depressed than I usually am, when I think about life and the universe. And ofc there is the fear of failure at those things that are imporant to me.
Would make a hell of a firework if it went off for new year.

Re: Thoughts that scare/anger you...
I guess some people are just naturally fearful....for me it has to be a direct and tangible threat.... fearing that windows OS is changing wont kill you or harm your love ones...so to me that kind of fear is incredibly superficial....yes yes I know fear is subjective but still I find that kind of fear weird.....Seems to me (I think) you just have a fear of change...which I can understand...but not microsoft windows 8....that's just down-right silly indeed...

Direct tangible threats work much less on me. I'm more of thinker, in my mind I can simulate how something like this could go and I'm not really liking the results of said simulations.
Getting a gun in my face is something momentary. I won't think about it much, it's more of a 'well shit' moment. It's not something I fear very specifically :/. I'm sure it's plenty scary if it actually happens, but thinking about it doesn't do much for me ...
that aside I guess fear is not really the right word. I should have probably used antipathy instead :/
should I change the title?

Re: Thoughts that scare/anger you...
The only constant in life is change.... You're gonna have to find a way to become accustomed to it...or forever be angry or fearful... Every single thing in life is going through some form of change...ideas/people/viewpoints/...even the inanimate object that appears to be the same year after year is changing on a sub-atomic level...Its nature... At some point Microsoft will take a backseat so some new OS...it just has happened yet........

Re: Thoughts that scare/anger you...
Hey, Bob, I'm worried man. You know, I was really looking forward to Windows Vista. I was really anticipating the improved security features and was really hoping it could provide a better platform for my needs than Windows XP did. But guess what Bob? Windows Vista is terrible! It crashes all the time! It's not secure at all! It's the worst thing ever! I hope the next Windows, Windows Alpha or Beta or whatever, is actually good. Because I'm scared man. I'm scared that desktop computing will be completely destroyed forever and ever. I can skip Windows Vista. But what if the next one is bad? And the one after? I'll have to upgrade eventually! Vista is the death of computing!!!!!!!
If a niche in the market opens up it will be fulfilled. This goes without saying. Desktop computing is not doomed. Between the large market for home users and business alone a stable, "good" desktop OS will always exist. Microsoft would lose far too much money if they didn't. Kthnx.
My biggest fear is that the world outside my mind, the world that isn't concerned with the petty problems and self destruction that manifests in my head, is as real as I'm being told it is. I fear that people are in pain, suffering, dying, crying, that it's not all some giant joke. I fear that what I see on the news is real. I fear that I can't just block the world out and pretend all the injustice doesn't exist. I fear that people are suffering and there's nothing I can do to end it.
