The Hermione Complex
So, a friend and I were talking the other day and a pretty interesting topic came up. I told him that I thought Hermione was attractive in the 2nd Harry Potter movie, and he called me a pedophile. (I'm 18, by the way) I told him that it's fine for me to admire Hermione at the age of 13 (or however old she is supposed to be in that movie) because when I watched it for the first time, I was around 12 or 13 too. In my opinion, it's still okay for me to think she was hot. I convinced him, and we now call this the 'Hermione Complex'. I really don't know how to explain it better, but I think people will know what I'm on about.
Thoughts?

Re: The Hermione Complex
So in summary: you get a pedo pass for 13 year olds if you once liked 13 year olds when you were 13 yourself.
Seems legit.

Not exactly. I can't just go to the local school down the road and say the 13 year olds are hot because I used to be 13. However, if I knew this girl since I was 13 years old and thought she was hot then, it's still okay for me to think that now. Digg?

I call BS. To me I find people who are younger to be physically unattractive. They have faces that are too youthful: almost pre-pubescent. The undeveloped bodies, the height, the "awkward phase", I just don't think it's attractive. Sure, you may have found it attractive years ago because you were of a similar age but I don't see how 5-6 years later you'd find someone so youthful to be admirable. I just think it's kind of wrong.

While true, there were those exceptions who was smoking hot back when you were 13 and grew up to be even more smoking hot. I'd think it's only natural to find her attractive if you found her attractive when you were 13.

There are some pretty hot/cute? babes that are like 14/15. I'm not going to date someone 4/3 years younger than me, but I still think some of them are nice.

Re: The Hermione Complex
I never understood how people find Hermione attractive. You haven't seen alot of goodlooking girls if you find her that attractive
OT: It's normal, because when you first found her attractive, you were the same age. The reason you still find her attractive as a 13-year old is coming from those previous feelings for her. If you would have seen her now for the first time as a 13-year old, I doubt you would find her attractive, unless you are pedophile ofcourse.

Re: The Hermione Complex
Most of your parents have at least 10 years difference between them. Chill on the pedophilia accusations.

There's a difference between a 20 and 30 year old. And at 20 and 10 year old. I'm just saying.

Re: The Hermione Complex
A pedophile is an individual whose primary sexual orientation is for children. Quite literally the word pedophilia means love ("-philia") for children ("pedo-"). In the field of psychology, a pedophile is considered to have paraphilia, or a psychosexual disorder. In the field of law, a pedophile is not a criminal unless s/he acts on their desires for children. When a pedophile does act on his or her feelings or desires, they may be committing acts of child sexual abuse or molestation, child exploitation, child pornography, incest, kidnapping, statutory rape, or the prostitution of minors.
There is no definitive profile of a pedophile, as individual characteristics can vary significantly. A pedophile can be a man or a woman. Of those pedophiles that commit unlawful acts involving children, the perpetrator is much more likely to be a man (80-90 percent) than a woman (10-20 percent). A pedophile may be a trustworthy and respectable adult in the community, who shows no outward signs of their condition to others.
A pedophile often prefers the company of children to the company of adults and desires time spent with children doing child-appropriate activities. A pedophile may be married to, or date people who have children in their desired age range. A pedophile may have been the victim of sexual abuse themselves as a child. A pedophile may derive satisfaction from children in a number of ways: some stop at looking, others take pictures and watch children, and still others require more contact to satisfy their desires.
