A new pc

Post by XMoshe »

I know a topic as this has been done dozen of times before. The fact that this deserves its own thread (IMO) is because I am looking for a pre assembled PC system.

This is for a friend. The budget is around 750 euro but preferred is quite a bit less. There will be some light gaming (IE silkroad/minecraft etc.) so there is no need for top notch hardware, but being able to run minecraft smoothly (possibly with mods) is a must.

If any of you fine gentlemen can help me out with a decent system, for sale in The Netherlands it would be much appreciated.

I understand that building a PC yourself is much more cost effective but no one my friend knows is able to build one. If it's possible to find the loose parts and having them assembled by the company that is fine too, as long as the price is within budget.

Thank you for any help you can provide =]

PS. there is no need for any extra hardware, monitor, keyboard etc is already there.

If he isn't going to play games besides minecraft than tell him go buy a laptop for $200 or something. It just needs more ram that's all.

You can always check Aldi for a good Medion computer. Medion has never dissapointed me...

Honestly, with those requirements, anything will do nowadays. I suggest you ask your friend what the heaviest task is that he will be performing... I doubt it's minecraft or sro >__> (unless maybe you've set shadows to detailed :D)

building a pc is not difficult at all... the hardest part is making sure the pieces are compatible but we can help you with that here if needs be...

building a pc for the first time is like...

when you got your first sega megadrive and wanted to set it up with the tv you have this box and a bunch of cables and u dno where they go... but after a very small amount of effort you realise theres only one place they can go.

its the same essetially only with much more satisfaction, a kick ass pc and you gain the title "nerd" with all your friends

Building a PC is not the hard part. When something goes wrong YOU have to figure out what it is and how to fix it instead of just sending it into whoever to get it fixed. There's a lot more to it than just square peg in square hole.

If you want something cheap and for lightweight work try something like

http://shop.amd.com/us/All/Detail/Deskt ... hTerms=apu

will be powerful enough to do what they need, or could buy a 6670 and do a crossfire with the integrated graphics. Will be powerful enough to meet basic needs and then some.

Aight thanks guys. I know the basics for building a pc but I can't do it for her seeing how I'm a bit too far away ;] She can barely tell apart a processor and no one around her can either so it's not an option :/ She was going for a laptop but made a deal with her mom that she can buy a pc now and a laptop later when she starts studying. So yes the heaviest she'll be doing on it is probably something like minecraft lol. But I'll ask once she gets online.

@poel: yeah I got a medion laptop and it works like a charm, for a very, very cheap price as well. It's just overheating a bit too much but that's fixable with either a laptop cooler or just breaking it open and put better thermal paste on it lol =]

I'll keep looking, so far, heaviest = minecraft or like a tera like MMO with that kind of graphics, if it can run that.

I don't have a clue about hardware anymore, but I know this is a good place to look for assembled PC's in the Netherlands.
There's a lot of reviews on all of the items there and you can ask for help on the forums where people are really into this stuff. (I think you'll get better advice over there than here, especially for the Dutch market)

Alternatively, hardware.info (that's a website) has a forum where I've been helped before assembling a PC. I'm sure they will help you select the best assembled pc too.

If we're talking more than minecraft like f2p from what I'm going to guess then I would really suggest something like a 300-400 computer then something like a 560ti. I haven't kept up with hardware, but probably something is better or it's still one of the better budget cards. Problem is those cases don't really allow room to upgrade or none at all. Then again the 560ti is an overkill. It can be something like a gt 520 or 6570, but would she be happy how the game looks? I don't know how something like Tera would look like on those cards. Probably replacing the cards would be too complex.

Well that's my suggestion. Look for something containing something like that which isn't retarded expensive. NA? Because then I guess she could use something like Cyberpower.

This is what a friend fixed up for me. It's a build but the people there will assemble it. From what he told me it's better than the average pc's that are 300 euro+ more expensive.

It should do the job well right? Maybe it's overkill for the things I requested (I got no idea) but being able to do more with it is always a pro =])

Oh man I'm slow. Euro hurrr.

Seems good enough to me. Little too expensive, but hey that's what get for asking others to build it. Though you could go cheaper on the CPU if it's just for facebook, f2p, minecraft, etc etc.

Didn't Minecraft only use CPU cause it's programmed in Java? Thinking CPU needs to be powerful. Maybe you can take it down on the Video card instead? I'm not familiar with the part, but 1024MB sounds pretty powerful...

Java can use OpenGL, which has gpu acceleration of course, so it taxes the gpu more, and minecraft in all actuality uses 1 core/1 thread *even though it appears to use more*

Also, GPU RAM DOES NOT DEFINE THE PROCESSING POWER OF THE CARD :palm:

unless you are running on 512mb gddr3 and running 2 1920x1080 screens and doing a lot a graphical things, though for my card being pretty old it tends to hold its ground.

gpu ram is kinda redundant... the ram is high enough even on a 512mb card... thats not the limiting factor any more.
now it appears to be clock rate (computing power and ram) they can store lots of data but not necessarily process it faster... also im not sure if this is a contributing factor but the fillrate? it seems that larger resolutions require faster pixel rendering

While that is true, you do need 1GB+ for large resolutions. As long as you have a decent monitor 1GB should be your minimum.

512MB is quite limiting actually. VRAM is actually faster than normal RAM. Higher resolution also uses more VRAM. Consoles limit a LOOOOOOT of things just to play as sub HD.

Video games have to load a lot into memory you know.

true... but 1gb has only been on the market for really 3 years (that actually does anything good with the extra ram... yes its been around for maybe 5 years but as i said, it processes things slowly)
512 is enough to run silkroad and minecraft with no frame rate issues what so ever.

It doesn't take very long for developers to try and push the envelope. It's just too bad no one is doing it anymore since they would have to program to different games really.

512 is not enough for me. I don't play games that can be ran on a $5 computer and I run everything at 1920x1200 on max on my GTX295 majority of the time. Sure it may be slower against newer cards, but at the rate of consoles.. well looks like I can keep it for the next decade.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

She bought one today, different case, better graphics card (the 7750 IIRC) and no win7 since she already had that eventually. So total like 550 euro? I think

pffft why make fun of me! i didnt suggest a 512 gfx card -.-
i have a 512 gfx card and i run games ok as it is...

all pcs should really be built to last around 3-5 years otherwise you pay too much for the components or it will go out of date too fast.

You pay the premium to enjoy the graphics on max. What's funny you can spend the premium ie $500 for a 680/7970 and expect it to last easily last at least 5 years now. Before everything was moving so fast. I blame consoles. Purely speaking of video games that is.

i wouldnt spend like $500 on a gfx card that will last me around 5 years, the prices of mid ranged gfx cards that will last you around 3 years you can buy for around $100

technology is so fast moving, when things break its not even worth fixing, it will probably cost you more to fix then to replace now a days

You wouldn't, because you're satisfied with midrange of settings and probably at a crappy resolution. Funny enough a $100 card wouldn't keep 60frames at max settings at my resolution, 1920x1200. If you said $250 that would be true for most games out on the market currently.

What's funny is that nvidia came up with PhysX to require people to upgrade. Why? Most games currently are just slapping high res textures and calling it a day. PhsyX is there to have people to stop buying AMD and switch to NVidia at the same time hoping that devs would use these features so more people buy higher end cards.

Also what's funny is that $500 now would last far much longer than it would 10 years ago. I guess you could say things are starting to plateau.

You are wrong and right. Right depending on how old the hardware is. Wrong that most due note most manufactures will give you [limited] lifetime warranty. You'd be a moron not to talk to their support about the issues you are having. Sadly I can't since BFG made my video card. Once it blows out it's gone forever.

I bought a 9800GTX+ 2 years ago for $100, I run dual monitors 1920x1080, I have played several games that use both monitors. I might not get a steady 60FPS but I sure as hell get playable frame rates on high settings.
