Graduation 2012

Post by Skyve »

Post up your plans broppenheimers.

It's coming up next wednesday for me. Really excited about it. Going out with an amazing girl. (we've been friends for 2 years. yeah I know friendzoned).

There's going to be a ceremony the morning and then a banquet from 6:00PM to midnight. Followed by an after-grad to some to some western-themed club (Mechanical Bull yessir) till 3:00AM. Whole thing going to cost 135$ :banghead:

Congratulations in advance to everyone involved.

Later High-School :D

I always figured you to be out of high school and older. Crazy

After my graduation we did the typical party and get drunk thing. Was a good time. Let us know when you start to miss the high school days and how simple it all was.

Congrats also, sir

Good for you, man. I still have about half a year to go before I graduate, however ball (New Zealand version of prom) is coming up in 2 weeks and a bit so I'm pretty excited about that.

I graduated last year. It was a lot of fun, we got really drunk from a traditional Romanian drink, Țuică (70& alcohol, made from fruit, usually Plums, sometimes Apples), and we partied for three days straight. Then, a vacation of preparations for University and now, University itself, in Vienna. Quite a bumpy ride, to be honest. No money for cigarettes, not a lot of things to eat and a really, really busy schedule. Life is hard away from home, at least to me it is. =/

My graduation isn't till next month :(

For the past 3 years, I wanted nothing more than to graduate. Now that I am almost there, I don't really want to graduate. I hate my high school, but it just gets harder from here and high school was a breeze.

It kind of feels like I didn't have anything to worry about in High school. I'd skip classes, have bad grades but it didn't matter at all. In University, though, if I fail, I'm wasting my parent's money, and they are working way to hard to make it so that I can be here. I miss Highschool a lot, though.

Not too worried about failing. I did well in high school (top 5%, received some awards, had great SAT scores). However, just the thought of living on my own is kind of scaring me. I like the idea of being free to do whatever I want, but all the extra responsibilities, not so much.

This.

I graduated college May 12. We had commencement, met with the family for pictures and lunch, then out to a bar with some friends. Didn't get crazy because I had to be at work May 14...

Enjoy college brosephs graduating high school. It can be pretty awesome.

I guess it depends on what your situation is. My parents are working their ass off to keep me in College. They work in a country where the average wage is six times smaller than in Austria (where I go to University). If I don't get perfect grades, they'll stop sending me money, and there's no way I can work a part-time job here (I don't have the legal rights, etc.).

So it's kind of stressful to me, I don't really get to enjoy College that much.

Oh well. At least I have the chance to study at a good University, not the shitty stuff we have back at home in Romania. :)

im confused.... americans call college high school and university uh the same? or different?
either way... high school in the uk was easy (11-16)
college was harder... especially if you have bad teachers or you have to shove 2 year courses into 1.

i dno about university though, i dropped out from college because im a mental wreck lol.

but dont get drunk... or do drugs, theyre so over rated.
theres more to life then getting drunk or doing drugs, unfortunately... just not much more to life then that.

I can't speak for anyone else but I go to a good private school in U.S. on full scholarship and as long as you don't do anything retarded (like drinking before/on day of exam, skipping homework/labs) you can get straight As with less work than high school. High schools liked to give tests every chapter and multiple homeworks a week and stuff, college has a lot less of that. There's a lot less assignments (teachers and TAs don't particularly like to grade)

It's far less work than high school 99% of the time, the 1% is for classes that weed out stupid people from competitive majors like orgo for premeds, biomedical mechanics for bmes, algorithms for comp sci (hilariously easy), fundamentals for higher mathematics for math (complete proof based class that's more bitchy than hard cause you have to write things exactly right), signal/systems for ese etc.

I happened to double major in two schools (art/sciences and engineering) so I've taken loads of classes and it's definitely less work than high school the vast majority of the time unless you're in architecture, in which case you're farked. If it's business school then you'll have the easiest time of your life, all business school is is networking for 4 yrs. I know nothing about the art school though, never taken a class there and all the students are really weird.

If you decide to have an engineering major, make sure you understand your homework. If you completely understand it, then you will make an A. I never got asked questions on finals that weren't covered in my HW.

And as SM said, professors generally don't give bullshit busywork like the teachers in high school do.

Meh i've been ultra lazy in college right now (not university) and i've failed 4 classes out of 29 classes... I had a plan A (Air traffic controller) didn't get accepted (real bummer)(not because of bad college grades) my plan B is pilot college (leaving tomorrow morning for interviews) they cut from 350 applicants to 100, and after interviews they cut again to 40 applicants. If that doesn't work my plan C is to finish my 4 classes next semester, and then apply for Pilot college, air traffic controller, and FSS (not an air traffic controller but similar)... Always have another plan... Lol

I always wondered. Is University just what other countries refer to College as?

I remember a British friend of mine from Halo 2 who always talked about his day at "uni," but never thought to ask him that.

Here in quebec the system is screwed up. We have high school until grade 11, then we have 2 or 3 years college, depending on which field you go into. Then you have the normal 4 years of university depending on which field you choose

In Romania / Eastern Europe, "University" is whatever follows after Highschool, in case we're talking about higher education (not some vocational school). We usually do eight years of general school and four years of highschool.

University is what comes right after High-School here.

I picture it to be quite hard but then again you're taking courses that you somewhat enjoy and you have much more flexibility with your schedule.

A university is just a school with more than one college. For example, Harvard is a university because it contains the Harvard College and the Harvard Extension school (another college). Colleges are part of the university but usually specialize in different things. All universities will have a College of Arts & Sciences (most applicants apply to this college) and then some will have an Engineering college, etc.

Ah thanks for clearing that up. I am not too worried about the grades. I got denied from my top choice (Cornell), so now I am just going to an instate college and I will try to transfer next year. I am kind of "overqualified" for the college. Not saying that I can just show up to classes every now and then and still get an A, but I don't think maintaining a good GPA will be too hard.

I am more worried about doing the "real world" things like getting a job and whatnot. I know I probably sound snobby and lazy right now, but I haven't had to find a job or do too many household chores so far. I don't have a problem doing my schoolwork, but whenever it comes to household chores, I turn into the laziest person ever.

However, based on all the responses thus far, I think I should be fine.
