Video Card / PC Problem

So using the integrated card works fine.

A while back pops gave me a Dell 256 MB RADEON HD 2400 Pro

I was using it for quite a while w/ no problems. Then a couple of days ago I ran !byeReboot (Litestep module (Uses this I think))

So it shutdown and then I waited for it to restart... And waited... and waited. So the computer didn't boot. Turns out for some reason the Video card isn't working. The monitor isn't getting a signal from the Card.

So thinking it had to do w/ the Card my pops gave me another Card (ATI Radeon X600)

Big surprise - neither worked.
So I'm stuck.
Is it the PCI-E Slot that's screwed up?
Drivers?
Idk. And yes I know my PC is junk.

Give info on !byeReboot, google doesn't help much. Try booting up with integrated and going into device manager and looking to see if maybe something is disabled...But ya more info on !byeReboot

Well if you want to at least be able to see something on the screen you could plug your monitor to your intergrated card.

Unfortunately there can be several ways of going about this. Without proper diagnostics, it'll just be a trial and error game. You can try resetting your bios, modifying your bios, try a pci-based video card (not pci-e) and if you have a hybrid mobo, you can even try an AGP card. You could help by giving the post error, according to your bios (see here) for model for "maybe" a hint of getting a proper idea of what could be wrong.

Unfortunately I have no PCI card to try.
No AGP slots so that's out too.

How do I check the POST? I don't hear any beeps or anything.

I've been reading that the power supply could be the problem. But it's a really low end card and I was using it fine for a while until now.
This is the PSU that's installed

It can be the power supply, it could be a lot of things :3

Try borrowing your dads psu, or etc to see.

It might. To be honest your PSU is worth about $7 and your graphics cards are worth about $3, motherboard probably not much more. You could try to find a new motherboard on ebay/local sites and see if that fixes the problem and it most likely won't cost you much at all.

But as Gaige said it's going to be a lot of trial and error and narrowing down the problem and without spare parts that is going to be a massive headache.

You could try a reformat but it's pretty unlikely that will fix the issue. There's also a slim chance that both the cards you were given are dead. It's actually probably more likely that could be the issue, as they are both very old cards.

I dunno what I did but whatever it was it worked.
I'll just go over what I did and maybe someone can make sense out if it.

quick defrag. Shutdown.
Took out RAM, put RAM back in.
Put in the X600. omg stuff turns on cept the screen.
Unplug intuos4.
Took out the X600 and put in the 2400. Omg it works.
wtfjusthappened.

Driver wipe & install fresh ones (google for how to do this properly)

Reformat

Try different parts
-graphics card (both could be broken)
-motherboard
-powersupply


in that order
if you're lucky the first 2 will fix the problem..But hey it's been 5~ days since your last post so maybe you have it working

did the drivers already no luck.
probably not the gfx card.

it's either the mobo or the psu. And I'd rather not reformat.
I just gave up anyways lol. I only used it to play light games and I don't really use photoshop heavily now-a-days.

If you have another computer try using the video cards on them and see if it works through it. If it does then it's not the card then try PSU and if neither works then well.. I have no idea what to say.
