Why silkroad?

Post by Vaya »

After many years of playing this game, I can't F***ing play any other one for more than day/days, it's not the best game, it's a botfest or a grindfest, but still, I prefer it over any other mmorpg, I remember when I first joined before euro update I found this site and I just came to read the guides, and had a LOT of joy that I can't find in any other one, I want to play another one :/ fu silkroad.

I feel u man, this is the first mmorpg i played ever( And only so far ) ... I mean it's really hard to start another game, even thou sro is going downhill. But the gameplay and environments make me feel comfortable with the game. So changing game now would mean changing all that, environment, gameplay etc.

Really? I just stopped logging on. It kinda gets boring after awhile. Especially when everyone and their mothers has legend +12 by now. The quests are stupid, the mobs all look the same after awhile.

True, but I think he meant that it's hard playing any other game.
And I know exactly what he's talking about. I can easily go without Silkroad for a year, but I just can't play any other MMO game without thinking about how much better/funnier Silkroad was.

I know exactly how the OP feels. I tried again and again to find another mmorpg to replace SRO and I didn't get the same feeling from any of them as I did when I first started playing SRO....I thought Aeon would do the trick but it didn't. Because of this I'm on a break from all mmorpgs including SRO because despite it being the only one I like playing it is still boring and has lost it's appeal..

Hmm there was another mmo I was playing for awhile... Had quite a few members from SRO move over to it with me, but the game was shut down to fix the mechanics. They announced they wouldn't be back up until at least 6 months later.

NM, name was Divine Souls. It was fun for awhile, but the mechanics was a lil broken. Kinda like how war/cleric is super OP in SRO, the fist-fighting class ruined pvp with it's never-ending combo.

Silkroad has a solid PvP system even as bland and normal it may be. It's just solid.. with of course ignoring wizards being a glass cannon thrown into the mix. Also the trade system.

The grind wasn't anything special. It was normal back when it was released.

Most MMOs released now don't give a shit about PvP with it's balance. Strange.. for me to think Silkroad had one of the best PvPs out of all MMOs I've played..

I wouldn't say SRO has one of the best PvP system. If anything it had one of the easier to grab and play system. No aiming, no dodging, just click and spam. The only "skill" involved really was gear, luck, and knowing which skills to use next. I prefer pvp's where people can dodge, sidestep, run around, etc. At least that is a challenge.

I'm hoping this is true because I am loving whats shown in the previews of GW2. I like the open sandbox concept of the game where you can log in and immediately find yourself in the middle of chaos happening in the world. That sounds like instant fun...which is what I'm looking for in an mmorpg.

I'm tired of mmorpgs that has the same concept where you start out with a newbie char that needs to run around town to meet NPCs then head outside to start hack 'n' slash...That's hella boring..

this is so true. SRO pvp takes zero skill, honestly.

In the same boat. But I had so much fun playing this game back in the day. It was less bots and more active players. Oh the days of seeing full unions doing trade runs. Then my chat blowing up and my whole union Thieving up for a epic battle. The multiple wars going on all the time. Had so much fun, now its pretty lame but I can't stop playing still. I guess I am hoping for the good old days to come back. lol

Yup its just a wc3 map, however its addictive, there are tons of tourments with really high $$ as a prize for the winners, there is dota 2 which is not a wc3 map, u can get it from steam but its still in beta phase, so ull need a beta key, u may be able to get it from playdota.com.
But the game is not easy to play and ull need time to be a good player.

Even if the fights were based on luck and gear the system is still solid. "Zero skill" Hmm.. I have to agree and disagree.

-Agree
Yeah you can just spam and hope you won. Ideally it wasn't worth doing.
-Disagree
You had to think about the skills in which way to combo and if you got the RNG factor of critting then you would quickly change your mind in playing

No aiming, no dodging, just click and spam. The only "skill" involved really was gear, luck, and knowing which skills to use next.

I felt like I should quote this. You just listed most MMOs. Gear is still a main factor. In fact it's a very huge factor. You still can spam skills without thinking. The only thing that changed in most was well.. health. There's no such thing as dodging. You're either line of sighting them or end up with an invincible animation of moving somewhere.

Even though the Silkroad pvp system might not be the hardest one, the game itself is extremely complex compared to many other MMO's out there.

I mean, sure, it won't take long for you to understand that you can use stones to up the stats of your items etc., but knowing the formula of the damage, that acc's actually means a lot etc., can take a very long time figuring out.

Especially because Joymax doesn't give us a hole lot of information. They have guides for the most basic, but the rest is up to each individual player to figure out. That's what I like about Silkroad. Even back in 2008 when I had played it for two years (not constantly, though), there were still new things I could learn about how the system works.

Eh if Divine Souls ever come back, you should check it out. You can easily dodge and avoid hits. There are skills that go straight down the sights, skill that have AoE, and skills that spread out. I remember the first time I pvped someone from SRO on there, I butt-raped him even though he was the one that introduced me to the game, had the OP race, and had better gear (roughly 10 lvls higher). How? I planned my attacks, dodged all of his, and made him run into my strongest attacks. That's the kind of PvP I find challenging. SRO pvp is only challenging the first few months when a new race is introduced. After that period of "what is the best", everyone does the same. Look at every warrior/cleric. There's a set of predictable moves they will use every time. Same for any build really. You can close your eyes and predict what will happen.

You could always play a private server with active GMs and a better community. Silkroad Salvation for example.

Guild Wars PvP := best PvP there is.

When the game reaches the point where your PvE achivements influence your PvP - the pvp loses value. Silkroad's PvP is nothing strategy wise - its about the gear. The system is not complex.

The PVP system is not. But the game system (the entire game) is. At least compared to most huge MMO's like WoW.

But then again, WoW is made to be mainstream, and therefore easy to play. Same strategy as Apple basically.

What do you mean the game system is complex? The system itself really isn't. The only reason anything in Silkroad is complex is because everything was badly translated or most shit wasn't even explained.

If someone explained the system if it's easy to understand. Nothing was hard or complex about Silkroad at all. It amazes me when no one read the site about the introduction to fortresses. You know assign ranks -> buy hammers -> hit the buildings. I don't know about other servers, but in Troy? PFTAHAHAHA People ended up humping the walls. Server hated us, because I understood a simple concept and forced the max amount of people I could to use hammers. Surprise surprise the guild I was in took the fortress. So I guess even with an explanation no one gives a shit. Maybe the community itself was.. is retarded?

Again, I did not talk about any specific part of the game such as Fortress war.

But if it is so simple, then please explain to me the mathematics behind parry rate compared to the other persons attack rate and phy. / mag. attack. Also, I would like to know how exactly how much differences the reinforcement does and how exactly bezerk gain is calculated.
I'm just saying, it isn't everything that can be read on the site.

I do agree, though, that a lot of Silkroad players are somewhat stupid, and don't even want to read the information Joymax provides on the site. That being said, I'll also have to agree with Goseki that Joymax didn't really give us a hole lot of information. Lots of stuff was up to ourselves to find out - and that's what I really love about Silkroad.

Most people tend to stay away from things that are complex ( or take extra effort) unless it has some other appeal. And lucky for silkorad it does in terms of graphics and skills. So I'm not sure if not giving out much information about how the game works is a good idea. If it wasn't for Silkroad's sense of uniqueness with how it looks I doubt this many people would be playing it
