Ancestry

Post by BuDo »

Have you seen those adds on TV about people finding out about their ancestry? They all look pleased and intrigued to learn about their bloodline and who they have ties to.. I wonder how many of them found out that they're related to people like Hitler...or had great great grandparents who were slave traders...or serial killers....

If you found out that you share your bloodline with some known undesirable people in history would you go around sharing this? What if your great great great grandmother was the biggest whore in her hometown? Or your great great great grandfather was a sexual predator who raped over a dozen under aged children..discuss..

Those people are normally forgotten, or not mentioned within family. Haven't done this myself, but from what I do know of my ancestry of those that are noteworthy... Jane Bolin, Gaius Charles Bolin, etc., etc.

The only thing I know that'll be in my ancestry are slaves and germans lol. Oh, and a part of my mother's side of the fam. has a breed of pig named after it (the chester white).

I think my ancestry is pretty interesting, actually. My fathers side was a noble family from Germany, so that'd pretty cool. With a coat of arms and everything :sohappy:
A couple of years ago we sold the family house in Germany, that shits like a damn castle.

My mothers side is full of artists, writers and poets and shit. She's Chinese btw. I remember recently a distant relative from my mothers side died, apparently his paintings were worth literally millions of dollars.

Soz for any bad grammar or shit, on phone atm

I'm pretty sure I was adopted or switched at birth. My mom gets so mad at me when I tell her I legitimately want a DNA test.

My family is boring.

Speaking of serial killers though, my old junior cricket coach was Ivan Milat's brother. I thought it was pretty cool, be it a bit intimidating.

I've searched most of my family tree back to the 1700s-1800s. My dad's side of the family were farmers, mainly around Suffolk/Essex area. My mum's side of the family were in the London area, my 2x great grandfather was a police officer in the 1900s in London. My grandmother's (my mum's, mum) family were a wealthy family. But my 2x great grandfather gambled the lot, and lost everything.

I've tried looking for the places they lived, or church yards they may of been buried. But couldn't find anything.

My mom side of the family was extremely poor. My great grandmother immigrated from Ireland. My other great grand mother from that side was an orphan adopted from an indian reservation in Quebec. No one on my mother's side has finished high school.

My grand father on my dad's side was a Chinese diplomat who moved to Vietnam after the communists took over. He started a sugarcane business and was at one point the largest sugar producing company in the country - they turned my dad's old house into a hospital and sold (the government) the plantation land+factory to a Taiwanese company. Because he let the American's use his ports and stuff the family had to flee after the war. Everyone except my dad and his two brothers (all 3 minors) ended up in Australia (Cabramatta, **** yeah) and the rest in Canada. Here they lived very poor when arriving, had to put themselves through school without financial support or English skills.

Beyond that I don't know much about my family history.

The only couple things I know is that this guy is from my mother's mother's side of the family:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_Cyr

And that apparently there is family on my dad's side who are in the Chinese military ranked at general and greater. Only my grandmother has visited them and only once, we don't keep in touch.

Oh side note: My grandfather had his last son at 67. He had 3 wives, one died young and the other two he had at the same time. After he died and they were in Australia, they still lived together with the kids. I don't know which one is my biological grandmother - I call them both grandmother.

Don't know much about my ancestors, but that's because our family is huuugeeee lol. But I do know that one of my ancestors owns one of the biggest television networks in Syria, it's still property of our family.

My Great (7x) Grandparents were the some of the first free settlers to come to Australia. I see these shitty ads on TV, and just laugh at the people in them, so I don't really care, but this thread sorta maybe got my interested. Might check it out sometime.

Fun fact: I'm also related to a noble. Only they were English. And actually had a castle.
