Does Steam sell new games cheaper around Xmas/New Year?

Hey guys, I'm pretty much new to steam. I want to buy Skyrim for a friend around Xmas... it cost $59.99 now and it was just released 3 weeks ago.

Does steam ever lower prices around Xmas or New year for new games?

Depends on how new, and anything as new as skyrim they probably wouldn't cut more than 30%, sometimes for little older games they'll do up to 50%

At the moment they got a special where they have a game 75% off every day. MW2 was on it yesterday, but I doubt they will put up games like Skyrim/MW3/BF3/ACR or any other game released in the last 1.5 months.

this really....although sometimes they have super special deals so keep an eye out.

Skyrim on sale? I honestly doubt it unless Bethesda includes it in their complete catalog which you don't get to keep extra copies from them. It isn't up to Steam to put it on sale. It's the publishers. If anything maybe 33% off.

However you can probably find it online for ~$45 during one of their sales. Not including Steam.

BF3 has been on sale for 50% off Origin's site 3 times. Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and something else. I think it was 40% off the 3rd time though. By Origin I mean the actual store of theirs that used to be called "EA Store" meaning you can buy physical copies for that much. Included free shipping as well. ACR was $35 off Amazon I believe yesterday.

Well Valve games tend to go on sale no matter what. Even then the Valve pack is always 50% off during a sale to be $50 which includes extra gifts of the ones you already own.
