Living in your city?!

Post by Strwarrior »

Hi,
So hows living in your cities(or wherever u are now)?, starting from people?, and how is "socializing" there?, prices etc stuff.

About me, i live in dubai and i like it, actually i love it, the place is really nice, people are great and helpful, the prices may be a little high but not as much as ppl think.
(i didnt really notice this untill i visited anothet cities)

The real reason why i posted this, is that i was visiting another city and i was surprised by the life there, i saw an adv about a car (2011 korean car) which costs about 65k usd, and its worth 30k in any another city, i went to a restraunt and i was in the 2nd floor, i asked a guy that was working there for a straw and he replied " u can get one at the 1st floor" i was like wtf are u serious?, why r u working here?.
Also the places there totally suck and unclean.

Felt like sharing because this place is boring !.

I live in Preston UK, the only reason you would have heard of it is because of that video of the kids cage fighting from a month or so ago. Which because I work for the city council was all I heard about for weeks.
The city itself is a Farking dump, because of the Councils plans to build a massive shopping centre the place hasn't had any real investment for years and has gone to shit. Although the plans fell through because of the economy so hopefully it might start getting some money put where it is needed.

I live in New York. The best way for me to describe the mood here is to compare it to being in an economy class seat in an international flight. People mind their own business most of the time; people are not too friendly but not completely oblivious to those around them - then of course, there are people who are either too rude or shamelessly friendly.

I live in Lancaster, Ohio. I town with roughly 30,000-35,000 people. It has everything a working class citizen needs, and if there isn't something you're looking for, Columbus is just a short 30 minute drive away. My town is full or "Yanks" and "Rednecks/Hillbillies" but the cultures blend pretty well through religion but not with politics. Our town has an average income less than the national average which leads to a lot of democratic votes, but at the same time the town is heavy in religion and farming so their are a good bit of republicans. Our town sadly though has a lot higher national standard of drug abuse, and has really hurt they way we live here. I like Lancaster because it's all I ever needed and will need, though I plan to move to a country with better equality and still decent freedoms

Melbourne
it's a very cool, cosmopolitan, vibrant and artsy/creative city. The city is adorned in graffiti clad laneways, intimate cafe's, stunning gardens and parks, Victorian architecture and the people are generally helpful and nice about it (unlike in Sydney...)

It's not the cheapest city to live in, but a hell of a lot better than Perth or Sydney, and thankfully doesn't suffer from the pretentious new-money of Perth, or narcissism of Sydney.

Temecula, California, USA
its a white suburban neighborhood east of Los Angeles (actually LA is like an hour away)
in every neighborhood every 3 or 4 houses look exactly the same.
if you go to school or have a job its preety easy to have a lot of friends.
Mostly retired people and military live in this town (30 minutes from the biggest naval base in the world)
Drugs are very easy to find, also theres parties in at least one house in every neighborhood, which only takes about 5 dollars to get into.
Alright place to live if you ask me

I live in Canberra, ACT, Australia. I've been living there for around 4 months or so now. It's a very quiet city, there's a lot of bushland, parks, trees etc. Hell, when I go for a run of an afternoon it's not rare for me to see wild Kangaroos on the paths near the lake (which is just outside my house).

The culture is very work-oriented. Many people in Canberra simply live there for the jobs: there's a lot of Government based roles and the public sector in Australia is a joke. Because of this, most people are fairly well off and you don't really see a lot of trashy suburbs. As a result, everything is insanely expensive. The rent for the house I'm living in is $2200 per month (I'm sharing it with 3 other people, renting by yourself is just too expensive).

It's a nice place though and it's insanely pretty, especially at night.

I plan to move to Melbourne within the next 5 years. It's my favourite place in the world, the culture is so amazing and it's such a surreal experience visiting it. As soon as I can afford a house I'll be moving.

I live in Groningen which is the best university city in the Netherlands. I pay 250 euro's a month to rent an apartment together with a friend (have my own room, we share living+kitchen+bathroom) which is an absolute bargain considering I live in the center. Living here is pretty good.

I live near a town about 50 miles from London, UK. Not much to say, we have a castle, a bunch of Roman stuff, and apparently it is the oldest recorded in Britain...

I live in Pärnu, the summer capital of Estonia. It has a bit over 44k people. Walking through half the city's length is quite normal. The traffic is not bad, but i still don't like it in the mornings. The beach is the best in Estonia and in summer it's loaded with ppl. The most common tourists here are Finnish who buy and drink a lot of beer here. I wouldn't wanna live in the capital, never. :D

I almost got run over 3 times yesterday, some people are really assholes ._. Maybe I got a special sixth sense for it to pick out assholes and overall anti social behavior but it's everywhere ugh. Sometimes I truly hate humanity.

Public transit is shitty too, they cry when there are 5 leafs on the rails and every fucking year the trains get screwed over by the snow/winter weather. WHY DON'T THEY LEARN ARGH

Prices are alright I guess, I barely go out so I can't really judge that.

Chicago is meh after I've lived here for 20 years. I'm too lazy to describe it. Weather sucks, public transport is alright, nice downtown, plenty of things to do, and I don't know what else.

Same  I'd do anything to go there, but sadly it's not possible because of the Israeli authorities.

I live in Alexandria, a very unbalanced society just like the rest of Egypt, 1% of the people live a luxury life, the other 99% are struggling to get their minimum needs, everyone is creating a new way to earn a living due to low salaries and high prices, tips became a main part of most of jobs that includes doing a service to others, it's not an optional thing, you get asked for a tip and you must pay it.
the city itself is amazing imo, more like the heaven of egypt, and I love it =).
nice topic btw.
