You can on one condition, they damage personal property. Then it's usually just them replacing it if it was honestly ruined/broken along with them paying your legal fees. However, a court would most likely not even have such a dumb lawsuit waste their time.
I really don't see why the employers get mad at this. They paid for the Ice-Cream, it's their own deal. The only thing I can think off is being disrespectful with the person you are dealing with.
