I've seen 3 of those but in Barry Schwartz case, I felt like his presentation kept hammering on the same point by simply presenting different examples. I mean, it's definitely enlightening but at the same time, it just seems like once you get his point - that's that; any further examples just makes the last one seem redundant. Or maybe I just need to listen to it again.

@Miro: Yep. I think the most alluring factor of this presentation is the revelation that even the most common (and cheap) items such as a Wii remote hold such capabilities waiting to be utilized (or exploited). That, on top of the fact that it is an amazingly cool gadget, is why I find this to be so amazing.

yeah I agree, His presentation could've taken at most like 5 minutes lol. I'm guessing he just really wanted to emphasize his point and present how prevalent these kinds of choices and situations are.

Smartboard - $2000 ~

WiiMote + infrared dot-pen - $50

Did you listen to the guy talking at all..?

The second part is an interactive 3D approach to games, which cost $60 (wiimote + glasses + free software). It was picked up by EA after a short while just from video demonstrations on youtube

why am i even explaining this, just watch the video and listen -.-

wow thats cool...but i assume the EA game will be an upcoming Wii game?

Also how do you all think nintendo will react to this? Either get a bee in their bonet or not care...could be either way really..lol

@UD:
From what I understand, he used the Wii remote as an alternative infrared camera instead of a smartboard in order to sense motion. You'll still need a projector and a computer, of course, but instead of using a Smartboard, you can simply place the Wii remote on top of the projector then outline the placement of the margins on the projected image via the infrared pen.

So...all in all you'll need:

-Laptop
-Projector
-Wii remote
-Infrared Pen ($5 cost according to the speaker)
-The computer program that he developed to let you do all this.

Basically, in both cases, he's using the Wii remote's ability to track movement via infrared to do different things.

@satman:
Well, we all know Sony would probably go apeshit if he did that with one of their hardware but I haven't heard of anything yet from Nintendo - at least not to my knowledge. I guess the main thing the company has to worry about is their image to the public; going against this would spell a PR disaster for Nintendo because it would be basically telling all the public schools that lack funding that they can't have access to this technology unless they come up with the money for it - in other words: "go buy a smartboard, peasants!"
