What Does Freedom Mean To You?
So, what is your idea of freedom?
And what does "Freedom" mean to you.. and can it be taken too far?

To me freedom means having money and not being bound to a job (aka location).

To me freedom is the ability to make your own choices. I don't think it can be measured in material objects. I respect other people's freedom and I expect other people to respect mine, but hey, it doesn't all ways work that way.

Re: What Does Freedom Mean To You?
Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else will follow.
haha.
haha.
Re: What Does Freedom Mean To You?
Freedom to me is to exercise any change in life that I desire without incurring any undesirable consequences. But this is a myth. We aren't free actually. We're just free to make choices within boundaries set up by society, our conditioned mind or the physical world itself and that isn't my definition of real freedom.
Simply put.....this life and the world we live in is like a rats maze and you can go anywhere the maze is built to allow you. You can be as free and creative as you want just as long as its in this maze. No I don't feel trapped really. I'm just recognizing the entrapment.

Re: What Does Freedom Mean To You?
To me it means many things...but mainly being able to
chose not how one lives their life.
But how one decides to react to obsticles placed infront of you, the freedom of being able to dictate how the path infront of you is laid out. Chosing to be able to lead your life a certain way but also knowing that every choice, action and reaction that you carry out and go through is yours and yours alone....only then can one be truely free.

There is no freedom. Everything is bound to each other. Unless you stop exist.

Freedom to me is being able to make your own choices and being able to create your own life. Your own destiny. Live how you want.

Re: What Does Freedom Mean To You?
tbh in all seriousness freedom in the sense of its written meaning dont exist im a n-pass in my life im been forced down a route i dont want to go but the alternative i simply cant live so i dont have freedom, yeh we can do quite a lot and can do more then some coutrys but in the fight for freedom we have essntially lost it to tax, laws and politcal correctness not to mention social obligations and this sense of normality which we are expected to comply with ie born, school, work, die.
in saying all this i rather be where i am then in a less fortunate coutry where you have no freedom.
also on about freedom of speech mentioned above go to your local mall, airport, police station or anywhere with lots of people about and shout bomb!! then tell me you have freedom of speech

Re: What Does Freedom Mean To You?
To be able to make the choices in my life that I want to make, even if they are bad ones as well. Because we all learn from the mistakes that we make in our lives and move on from them. If you haven't got the freedom to do that, then how are you suppose to make the bad ones and learn from them?
I work in a care home, and the residents that I look after are learning disability, they haven't got the capacity to make day to day choices in life that we take for granted. They cannot simply say, I want to go sky diving, as there is a risk involved. Would they understand what that risk is, if they have, then it is their choice to do it. But if not, the carers etc, will then need to say, is this person at risk and if so, to take that from them. They I believe haven't got the freedom that we have to take risk, and to take whatever direction that want to take in their lives.

Re: What Does Freedom Mean To You?
Freedom is as follows:
1. Read some Hobbes & Locke.
2. Drink a 6 pack by yourself.
3. Take a course on existentialism.
4. Read some Camus.
5. Have a shot of whiskey.
6. Read some Sartre.
7. Forget the alcohol, it's pointless now.
8. Read The Dharma Bums, then Ishmael.
9. Have a dabble at Russian roulette with an empty revolver.
10. Read "Plato's Apology" and muse over it for a few hours, fall asleep.
11. Get out of bed, go to work/school, and pretend like nothing ever happened.
