You should use the built-in guides in the shop. You just select one (they are sorted by popularity). It'll even auto-level your abilities.

Getting a good gpm is a major issue while learning the game.

Here are some things that help:

Be really focused on last hitting, always carry a teleport, ward ganking routes or ask for your support to ward them so you can farm without having to worry about a gank.

Yes, teleport stones. You have no idea how useful they are late-game. People tend to think they're only useful to teleport to your towers.

Use them if you're getting chased. This is HoN, juke the shit out of them and when you're safe double-tap it to port back to base.

edit: Is it me or this game suffers from latency ? I have 17 ping on LoL and other games have less than 100 but here I have like 200 which is a very different feel in terms of LH and whatnot.
