Tips on Creating an Art Portfolio.

Post by dynamies »

Hi guys, I am planning to start hunting for designing career after I graduate from my multimedia course.

The problem is I have no experience and I am not sure how to prepare a portfolio for interview. I think I should start preparing now, any tips?

Be creative. You have to find ways to attract the attention of your potential and employer. If he/she can already remember your name, you're halfway hired already. I saw so many ways that people presented their portfolios - some of them expensive, some not so much - but every one of them is creative. For example, a professional photographer that I met before told us that he uses 32GB flash drives to present his photos - all in PDF format. It's in PDF because it allows the employer to browse through without having to click and click and click (gives a better impression of proficiency). In addition, the flash drive is encased in a glass "film roll" and his name/contact info is engraved on the flash drive. The significance of that is that the 32GB flash drive is something anyone may keep and use - the potential employer can delete the PDF files but at least the guy's name/contact info is always with him (he got hired by Nike because of that).

If you have a little extra cash:

I'm applying for a job in the medical field so I have to resort to the classic paper resume but I also made an online portfolio for them to browse through.
