Anyone suggest parallels?

Post by Rosato »

I have a macbook pro and unfortunately some of the programs I need for college are windows only. So, has anyone used parallels and would recommend it or should I just use bootcamp? I don't even wanna update it to windows 7, I have a windows xp disk from my old desktop computer that I would more then gladly use. So, anyone have any experience with parallels? :)

I have parralels on my MBP. I use the mode where it just adds the My Programs folder do your dock and everything looks integrated.

It does what it's supposed to do but like boot camp, I haven't really had much use for it. If you need to run some programs from school it would do the job. But it's not worth using to the Windows version of programs when released on both platforms or an alternative is available.

Alright, thanks for the input. The way I see is if I only need to use a few window programs, what's the point of having a windows side to my mac? It everything is on the mac side, it seems more reliable and faster. Maybe I will use the windows side for gaming but doubt it so I think parallels is more for me. :D

To be honest, when I was on my mac I would always want to install parallels or boot camp. Then, when finally installed, I would never use it. Especially with boot camp. I installed Windows via boot camp the week I got my MBP, I had it on there for over a year before I used it a second time. I had to uninstall it on my MBP because I have like 20GB left on a 1TB drive :'(
