Yeah, yeah whatever... for those who own one, should I get it?
I can easily get 150$ atm, I can even put my PS2 + FAT PSP to pay for one (the rest, I can pay it with my salary)... but does it worth it?
Also... I am not sure whether buy a Brand New one (4GB slim, 199$) or a Pre-Owned one (129$-139$)

I'm bored of my PS2 games, and bored of computer games (lately any MMORPGs don't satisfies my thirst of gaming, plus they are such a time waster)

My only concerns when getting one is:
- Red light?
- Game prices

Online is the least, I like single player lol Mostly just to play FFXIII or Marvel Vs Capcom III. I would get a PS3 instead, but my budget doesn't allow me to buy even the lowest priced one, so is discarded it from my buy list.

Anyways, this has been on my mind for a while so I need some suggestions. Vote and comment or just comment or whatever.

I am looking into getting the Gears 3 Limited myself. My Halo 3 Limited is getting kind of sluggish sounding. $400 for that, but I need new controllers.. I have one that is semi-broke lol. Plus is comes with gears 3 which I haven't pre-ordered anyways. And the New headset will be nice considering mine is broke as shit.

Anywho, Yes get one. Online isn't an issue if you have a Job. $60 for a year.. that's $5 a month for xbl. That's like 1/6th of my internet bill. The 4gb is definitely worth it though as well. Red light isn't much of an issue unless you physically damage the slim. The new heat exhaust ports on the box help keep the temp low and they use way better solder that has more heat resistance. Game prices are same as Ps3. $60. Game prices don't go down as fast as they used to for xbox/ps2 though. And when they do, it's only down to $40-$50 mostly, then $30.

Get a new one. Buy a 2nd hand, and you will never know how it's treated before. Maybe the previous owner rarely cleaned up their house and your 360 will be stuffed with dust.

Don't be too concerned about RRoD. You have warranty for quite some time, and if you take care of the machine, it's not going to break down easily. Install the games on the harddrive, so the disc drive doesn't have to keep running, don't leave it on for too long, and when you don't use it, put a cover over it to protect it from dust.
I have my Xbox 360 for three years now, and I never had a single problem with it.

If this is your first Xbox, there's plenty of older games you can fish out of the bargain bin. Newer games aren't more expensive than PS3 games, so that shouldn't be too much of a problem. You can also check for stores that sell second hand games. These are all in working order and are a lot cheaper than new ones.

If you aren't sure, wait a week or so. If you are still thinking of getting one, get one.
If you stopped caring by then, then apparently you don't need it that badly.

I agree with RuYi, Id say brand new. Maybe the chances aren't severe of you getting a badly used 360. But Id play it safe. If i recall right, I believe Red Rings isnt a prevalent problem now. Or at least very unlikely compared to before. Another reason to buy new, i believe the hardware was changed around in new ones to avoid the problem.

There are tons of old games to buy. If you are into single player, thats even better as the old games may not have any MP presence anymore but the story mode will be just as enjoyable.

Multiplayer does add lots of replay value to a game to save you money as well, if you ever think of getting into it more. I still remember a game like Halo 2 lasted me over a year for example. If i played only the campaign I'd probably have been bored in a month tops. Enjoy your 360, if you decide to go for it.

Don't make the same mistake I did -- the 4 GB version may seem like a good deal if you don't think you'll need a lot of space, but what they don't tell you is that some features REQUIRE an actual hard drive. You might think that a gig is a gig and it shouldn't make any difference whether it's on a disk or flash memory, but to the Xbox, they are not equivalent.

This means that unless you buy a hard drive (and it has to be one of the new 250 GB hard drives because the old ones are not compatible), you get no backwards compatibility with Xbox games, and some 360 games will arbitrarily block you from some features such as playing online or even installing updates or DLC, regardless of how much free space you have available. Basically, you can only use the internal storage (or a flash drive) to store full games, saves, or other media, but it's not the same as having a 4 GB hard drive. I wish someone had told me this before I bought mine; I foolishly assumed that the features would be identical and the only difference would be the amount of space, but now I have to buy a hard drive separately, adding up to more than it would have cost if I'd just bought the 250 GB model in the first place. Caveat emptor, indeed.

Yeah, I am concerned about that. It might be not an issue for me at first (Playing online or even getting updates...) but it might be critical when I get used to, and I need it for real.
Well, if it works... I can get and external HDD (Compatible for Xbox360) and i think cost less than getting the 250GB model. We will see.

My friend has less than 1gb left on his. He can't play more than 1 game at a time that has dlc and has to keep deleting stuff and moving it around because since he downloaded dlc, it REQUIRES him to have the dlc to play it now because of his save. Stupid, but makes sense. I remember xbox used to sell with 10-20gb hdds.. In fact mine has a 20gb. (H3) I have like 7Gb left.

You can get the $200 box with the 4gb as a temp, but you might have to spend $10 more for shipping on the 250gb HDD since it's only $99.99 Which amounts to the $300 Box.

- Horizontal or Vertical Position? Heard horizontal won't scratch the disc or something like that.
- Is it normal that the top of the XboX (when horizontal) to be soo hot?
- Game Disc Vs. Downloaded/stored games... with disc makes a noisy, rather without it. I saw an option to "Install the game" from the cd? I think I need an extra HDD for it right?
- I guess I need a lot of ventilation in my room so it won't overheat too much.

That's for all now, I guess. I need some more tips in case I screw in some way!

Ive always had mine Vertical, haven't had an issue of scratched discs.

Make sure its able to ventilate as you said, horizontally it may be somehow getting those side vents blocked depending on what its on? Not sure.

Yes you can install the game on your hard drive to have it load quicker and play it quieter then with the CD. Depends on what size memory you have for how well it will fit. I have a Elite and never installed a game though, so my help wouldn't extend past that.

Yes, you want it well ventilated and cooler id say to help it not overheat. Don't leave it on when not in use, usual deal with any electronics.

As for horizontal/vertical and scratching discs, just make sure you don't have a disc in there if you're going to switch it from one to the other, that's what scratches them. If you're going to keep it in its position, then there shouldn't be a problem regardless of whether you pick horizontal or vertical. For maximum safety, if you plan to change it from vertical to horizontal, or vice versa, make sure you take any discs out and shut it off, then it should be just fine.

1. I have mine Horizontal mostly unless I have no room and I'm forced to put it Vertical. By the off chance it does get a Hardware overheating problem, Horizontal will make it so the hardware doesn't fall out of place. Happened to me, but I think Slims have a different setup inside.

2. Depends on how long your running it. I can run my xbox 4 hours without it getting too hot. Everything gets hot though.

3. Installed games are better for 2 reasons. - Reduces system heat as the disc drive doesn't run. - Better load times on offline content. You do need the 250GB HDD for that. If you use an HDD NOT Ok'd by Microsoft, they are liable to block your console from online use.. Best way is to buy the Official Xbox HDD.

4. The slims have a much better exhaust system than the fats. You should always have ventilation in your room regardless of it running or not and make sure your room isn't dusty. Since the exhaust ports are bigger on the slim, dust can enter it easier and clog it.

Yeah, I have it horizontal most of the time. My room floor is carpeted so uhm.. I guess it gathers dust, how I can protect the console from the dust? Plastic? The box? Silk? lol

At the first time I inserted a game DVD, and went to options, there was one saying "Install this game". I decided to give it a try, and for some reason the console told me that it couldn't found any HDD available. I did that once tho, I will do it again (assuming it can install it in the internal memory) and yeah, I am planing to get an Official Microsoft HDD, even tho I read somewhere that the 'copies' HDD for XBOX360 works exactly the same. Now that you mention the "If you use an HDD NOT Ok'd by Microsoft, they are liable to block your console from online use.. Best way is to buy the Official Xbox HDD." I am not sure anymore (XBOX360 official HDD is overpriced). So we will see.

Can I store save data into a flash drive conected to my console? Just wondering.

And one last thing, I am short of money (can't really buy popular titles, which they are over 40$) but i am getting pre-owned kinda old tittles @ gamestop, where they are around 4$-12$. M only concern is, since they are preowned, the DVD might come with scratches and it can damage my console DVD lenses, if I am able to install the game (from the DVD) that would be so sweet. I only would need an external HDD.

Oh no, I just mentioned the fact that I have my floor carpeted, which means that accumulates a lot of dust. I am just afraid that it get dust, so I am just only having like a sheet paper on the top of the fans to block the dust lol. But I think I will put it on the box for now liek you stated.

As for the HDD, no. I didn't bought one yet but I managed to transfer downloaded games into my MP4 HDD (20GB) and works well. The only inconvenient is, whenever I need to play a game that is stored, I must transfer it back. (Didn't tried it to boot from the MP4 HDD, but I don't think that will work)

Keep your carpet vacuumed and it should be fine. Also, don't leave it out while you vacuum. Dust will fly into the air and could get sucked in. If you bought the 4GB one, that is why you can't Install games. They take 5-10 GB to install to your HDD

It is possible(RDOD not RROD in Slim), but very unlikely to unless you physically damage it. The original RROD happened due to Cheap Solder that melted when the system got hot and caused the GPU to move out of place. The heat required to melt the solder was lower than the maximum allowed by the system before it shutdown from overheating. Which caused issues beyond annoying. That's why Older models are best Horizontal. Melted Solder won't cause GPU to move as much or even at all. It didn't liquify completely, just softened enough to allow it to move.

The Slim however Fixes that issue AND gives it a better positioning Xclamp to hold the GPU in place. A long with Extra cooling that drops the average system temp of the original 360s. It doesn't get a RROD from a Hardware failure anymore, but it gets a RDoD(Red Dot of Death).
"Microsoft is surely hoping RDoD never catches on because its new machine is quiet, cool-running, and very, very reliable. "

When the RDoD does happen, it means that it's possible your console is overheating and shuts itself off to protect it from damage. Let it cool down for at least an hour. Provide better ventilation and keep stuff off of it like game cases etc.

Yes. RDoD is designed to prevent the issue rather than show you have an issue. Which is why it shuts itself down before anything irreversible happens.

Oh, Awesome. Thanks for the info. Been using the XBOX360, so far so good. Using it 3-4 hours then 1 hour break until I play again lol Got games like Divinity II, Bayonetta and Ultimate Alliance 2. (Might exchange DII and UA2).

Get Resident Evil 5!

Popular shooter atm is Call of Duty: Black Ops and if the ppl on my friendslist arent playing that they're playing Modern Warfare 2.
Halo franchise. Gears of War. Dead Space 2 is just out if you enjoy being scared to death, there are some Splinter Cell games if you enjoy stealth.
I played Vanquish myself and I loved the super fast, chaotic gameplay. It has no multiplayer and the story mode is rather short, but the gameplay is addictive and it has challenge modes that keep you busy for a while.

RPGs.. Definitely check out Mass Effect 1 and 2 if you haven't already. Fable, Lost Odyssey, Dragon Age, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas.
I hated Final Fantasy XIII with a passion.

Assassin's Creed I, II and Brotherhood for adventure. Enslaved: Odyssey to the West was amazing, I loved that one. It recently got downloadable content that was really good too. Can't go wrong with Red Dead Redemption either, and that too has plenty of extra content to keep you entertained for a while.

I don't like sports games so idk about that. I hear good things about the NBA games though.

I'm pretty sure you can't get RRoD anymore (They fixed that up after the second one came out). Dust isn't a problem for me.. my xbox is dusty as anything, but I never have any problems with it.

If you didn't buy one with a decent sized harddrive (didn't read whole thread) you should go and buy one.. My mate bought one without a harddrive, and he has to use a USB to play on live and shit (coz of the dl's you need to do sometimes). That isn't really a problem though...

If you have a HD tv, get HDMi cable lol. Makes the quality of any game like a trillion times better.
