Oh right GoW3 is coming this month. Man I wish I had the money, loved the singleplayer/co-op of GoW. the multiplayer was meh besides horde. Let me know when you upload your stuff ;] I just hope you won't get flagged down lol

Yeah it was planned for april I think but postponed, saw that later yesterday hehe =p Wish I could play the beta but I don't have the cash to pre-order it or buy bulletstorm epic edition xD oh well I'll just wait till sept.

i actually won a code from major nelson on twitter so i was playing with the VIP's and others that won over the weekend. as an avid fan of the gears of war series since 2006 i agree with OP. this beta is amazing.

the customization will be fun for a while in retail, interested to see how many skins they'll end up putting out there. the increased movement speed is GREAT and makes the game that much more fun/addicting/skillful. i can actually use evade to dodge bullets and take two inferior enemies 2v1 again like in GoW1.

there's a lot of little things that they've added that make the experience that much better. my only problems with it so far are pretty minor:

i haven't been getting dedicated servers? not sure why. my NAT type is open.
hipfire with the retro lancer at close range beats gnasher 90% of the time. it's too accurate and is the only thing in the beta that NEEDS a nerf.
i can't toggle/crouch stand while aiming down my sight anymore while on a piece of cover. have to let go of LT and do so. not a big deal but it's unfortunate. i'm guessing it's due to the new spot system.

it's the same as gears 2 is now. straight up, no going down. exp as you go thing. takes a while to level up. i average about 2k points a match in TDM and i'm only level 12 after about 60 some matches.

personally, i'm not a fan of these kind of cod type ranking systems but i realize that with them there's far less cheating so oh well. i can't wait for this game to come out, going to try to stay in the top 1k all-time in execution with a good friend of mine

Honestly with how other games are doing ranks, I will be very surprised if in the release there is no new system.

Exactly as you said, the game feels like Gears of War 1 again, yet still has the ranged weapons slowing people down and being a viable way to fight (which is why they changed GoW 2, because they didnt mean to have people just charging with shotguns all game).

The retro is pretty ridiculous. I had it out accidentally instead of a shotgun, i was trying to crouch around a corner and shoot someone with the gnasher but lancered instead. He went down like a sack of bricks haha. The charge ability is pretty cool. For moments like in my vid when i used it, where its one of the usual stand offs for a gun, its a nice way to punish the person who decides to run out and try to grab it. Especially since they eliminated weapon slides by making you hold X to grab stuff.

I think its interesting to add a martyrdom type idea with killing someone who is downed holding grenades. Makes sense for it to explode after, and it brings strategy in to maybe bring out your smoke grenade if you know you're gonna die from getting ganked. Stuns them and lets your team mop up.

I truly loved my first day, even the way the campaign shaped up from a couple articles I read, then there is horde as well as the reverse horde mode as locust. Its gonna be amazing.

To be in the beta this week, yes. However if you pre-order GoW3, you can start the beta next week. Bulletstorm just gets you in a week earlier really.

honestly the fun in the gears system is the leaderboards. i love racking up points and checking where i am weekly/monthly/all-time. they also are going to have things you need to do to unlock executions and weapon skins. i'm hoping in the retail version some of them take a while.

Damn, i hated GoW1, and my friends told me to get GoW2 because it's so different. Hated it also, and it felt like it was the exact same game? This one feels the same also lol other than minor tweaks + campaign? It's like the call of duties, except the same guns...

What did you expect, it's the same franchise o.O Not many of these games will get major changes when it's a sequel (or prequel) to the last one. They usually do bigger/better more awesome lol maybe the gow setting just isn't your style =p

pretty much what xmoshe said lol. gears of war probably just isn't your cup of tea. although it's looking like

gow1 > gow3 > gow2 from a, let's grab a group of friends and run semi casual semi serious ranked matches standpoint.

gow3 > gow1 > gow2 from a purely competitive standpoint due to dedicated servers, and if there's not too much of a host advantage on LAN like in the other gears games.

Yeah I get it haha GoW is definitely not my style, although the campaign is pretty awesome , I finished it in like 1 or 2 nights with one of my buddies haha, just I never loved the online

some tips for beginning gears of war 2 players or if you just find yourself struggling with the MP:

use LB religiously. it helps to know where your teammates are at all times, and what weapon they're carrying so if you hear it and nobody on your team has it you know to watch out for it coming at you. also use LB if you notice a teammate just died. if they got executed, shotgunned, etc, you know exactly where one enemy is. (if you LB quick enough after a teammate death they will still show up, their name will just be bloodied out)

know when it's a frag grenade round. unfortunately with the way most of the maps that came on the disc were designed, each team gets their own little set of tucked away grenades. it's not uncommon at all for them to be camped, and planted. knowing that it's a frag round will help you once you start learning where they get planted on each map and be cautious going around those corners. two tricks for making them explode without killing you: roadie run right to a door way where you think they are, then dive back. if you do it correctly the nade will explode and you won't get hurt or will just take a little damage. in some spots you can do a 'peak trick' and just tap LT around cover real quick and make it explode that way.

change your sensitivity to high. it's still slow, and with the guns in this game there's no reason to have medium sensitivity. you're putting yourself at a disadvantage against people with good movement/wallbouncing.

hard aim or blindfire the shotgun. in gears of war 2, for some reason, you can't quick aim. attempting to will either make your shotgun lag, or your bullets get lost and you do less damage than a blindfire would do. &by hard aim i mean, press LT, hold it for about half a second to a second, then fire. blindfiring is really strong in this game, it just takes some getting used to. hard aiming is generally used for medium distance and when you're on cover or need to make a precision/finishing shot on an opponent that you know is really weak.

don't be afraid to get actives before a fight. i usually waste 2 shotgun shells right at the start of a round. it's also good to do with the boltok pistol and in some situations the hammerburst. don't waste too much though, or you'll be hunting for ammo after your kill.

watch montages. sit back, relax, and enjoy. montages can be entertaining but they can also be used to teach you a lot. take it all in, and you'll find yourself with more confidence out there.

once you get the fundamentals of the game down focus a lot on your movement. you don't have to be crazy wallbounce mode in every shotgun battle you're in, but you want your movement on/off cover to be quick and smooth. it takes some getting used to but you'll get it down. wall canceling (in the middle of your wallbounce, when you're sliding into cover, press down on the left analog stick) is also a REALLY good thing to get in the habit of doing.

hehe it's cool. I posted as soon as I found out about people able to win up to 5 beta codes to send to people. I tried getting on Gears 2 since I haven't in SO long.. I went 2-7.. I was baffled as to what had happened lol. It seemed odd though, I was directly behind someone many times hitting em with the shotgun point blank at least 3 times or more, Nothing.. They turn and one shot me after they roll backwards. Not sure if that was lag or not, but it happened all night long so I went back to Halo. It was weird considering the first time I ever played it on my brothers account, I wiped out the enemy team by myself in a little over 3 minutes. This time I died in almost under a minute every round. Frustrating.
