yeah, the problem with my proof is we can't say x + 9x = 10x because we don't know that x + x = 2x...

Re: 48÷2(9+3)
Get the brackets away gives: 48/2(9+3) = 48/(18+6) = 48/24 = 2
Edit: Damn after rewatching it I'm hesitating now. Because it could also mean:
48/2(9+3) = 48/2*12 and that would mean 288.

Re: 48÷2(9+3)
seriously this is getting silly now...
48/2(9+3) <--- this was how it was initially wrote.
BRACKETZ!
9+3?... 12.
INDICIES
none
MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION
48*1/2*12
ok now lets try this both ways (hehe like a bisexual)
48*1/2 = 24
24*12 = 288
1*2*12=6
6*24=288
for fun?
48*12 = (ill break it down for ya'z)
48*10 = 480
48*2= 96
48*12 = (48*10)+(48*2)
= 576
now 576*1/2 = 288
ok so for everyone else
288 is the answer.
if any1 thinks this is still wrong, pm me

48÷2(9+3) ≠ 48÷2*1(9+3)
The number infront of the parentheses is attached to the parentheses by distributive law.
If you have a plain old (9+3) it is the same as 1(9+3). How ever 2(9+3) the 2 takes the one spot and becomes attached to it by distributive law.
That being said 2(9+3) = (2 * 1(9 + 3))
so 48÷(2*1(9+3))
It states that 48 is divided by 2 and because the 2 is attached to the (9+3) it becomes 48 over 2(9+3).

Actually, 48÷2(9+3) = 48÷2*1(9+3)
This is how the equation is put
whose result is obviously 288 because 48/2 equals 24 and 24*12 is 288.
This is how you see it
In this case the result is 2, because it no longer is (48/2)*somethingelse, but it's 48/(2*somethingelse).
First case can also be seen as
Whilst second case is

You guys keep repeating yourselves and Put some equations that doesn't fit here . Getting boring as +100 posts and still at the start of the argue . It doesn't need art or much intelligence to solve this equation , Just follow the rules and don't invent new ones .
So in the first week in college i went with jeans and the pajama's shirt. Didn't notice what i was wearing till after i returned home.

It could be both 2 and 288 depending on how it is written. Right?

That number, 2, is attached to the 48 by a division sign (it is essentially a fraction). This means to solve this with the distributive law you would use 24(9+3)
48/2= 24
24*9=216
24*3=72
216+72=288

Someone did a "48÷2(9+3)atheist vs theist" poll on bb.com...
Majority of atheists picked 288 while the a higher percentage of theists picked 2... interesting.
It's 288, close the thread.
