Before I tell you to get Resident Evil 5 and the Mass Effect games, what kind of genre do you like?

Kinect is fun, but the games that are currently out for it are rather casual. The usual minigames and sport stuff and this game even a statue can play. For me, the only Kinect title that seems interesting is the upcoming Child of Eden.

So if you're not into those family games and sport stuff, might want to wait a bit before you get Kinect.

Get Resident Evil 5!

Popular shooter atm is Call of Duty: Black Ops and if the ppl on my friendslist arent playing that they're playing Modern Warfare 2.
Halo franchise. Gears of War. Dead Space 2 is just out if you enjoy being scared to death, there are some Splinter Cell games if you enjoy stealth.
I played Vanquish myself and I loved the super fast, chaotic gameplay. It has no multiplayer and the story mode is rather short, but the gameplay is addictive and it has challenge modes that keep you busy for a while.

RPGs.. Definitely check out Mass Effect 1 and 2 if you haven't already. Fable, Lost Odyssey, Dragon Age, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas.
I hated Final Fantasy XIII with a passion.

Assassin's Creed I, II and Brotherhood for adventure. Enslaved: Odyssey to the West was amazing, I loved that one. It recently got downloadable content that was really good too. Can't go wrong with Red Dead Redemption either, and that too has plenty of extra content to keep you entertained for a while.

I don't like sports games so idk about that. I hear good things about the NBA games though.

I don't know about Gamefly so I can't advice you on that.

Listed some pretty good games there.

When my xbox was working I was playing Fable, F.E.A.R., and MW2 not much of a console gamer but eh.

Assassins creed is good. I have yet to play brotherhood though. Damn PC version is coming out in 2 weeks RAGGGGEEEEEE.

Madame RuYi certainly knows her games =] Listed pretty much everything I would have recommended. Mass Effect games are just too awesome, plus you can use your char from ME1 in ME2 and continue on with it (and transfer it to ME3 when it releases at the end of this year IIRC).

And welcome to the xbox community xD

Newer models aren't bound to break down. I also think it matters a lot how you treat it.

My Xbox is almost three years now, and I never had a problem with it. If you don't play on it too long, and install every game you want to play on the HDD (this so the 360 doesn't have to use the disc drive constantly, it reduces rising temperature and loading goes faster).
I protect mine from dust with a cover whenever it's not on.

I had some problems with my first xbox, but I bought that one only like 4 months after the release. My new one hasn't had one single problem and I play(ed) quite a bit on it. Like ruyi said, a newer xbox probably wont break down as long as you treat it normally. So don't go dragging it around while it's on and stuff xD

Buy them. Gamefly is best for checking out a game that you are on the fence about but wanna play it first to see if it'll keep you interested

I'd recommend checking out some of the arcade games too. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night was an awesome RPG on the Playstation and it still remains an awesome RPG as an Xbox LIVE Arcade game. Perfect Dark was also awesome; brought back lots of memories.

Well if you play a game then never pick it up again for years and years. Then probably go with gamefly. That is if you play a lot of games.

If you pick up a new game every few months then probably just buy it.

Perfect Dark is far from lame. I spent hundreds of hours playing it on the N64 back in the days (along with Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Super Smash Bros.), so that's probably the reason for my bias towards Perfect Dark. I'm sure Goldeneye was an even more awesome game since I also played it, but I don't remember that game as well as Perfect Dark and it isn't available on XBLA.

M3K0S wrote:except san andreas...i swear i passed that game like 100 times xD

I forgot about Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. That's probably my second most played game of all time, second only to StarCraft: Brood War. I highly recommend getting GTA:SA as well.
