The Shadow Of The Wind sounds pretty interesting. Although I have to ask: is the original version in Spanish or English? The problem I have with a lot of translated books is that the art in the writing and certain things exclusive to the original text such as idioms get lost in the translation. This tends to happen a lot especially in novels.

Well, it's obviously in Spanish. I know what you mean when you say that in translated books certain expressions get changed for the worse. I read it Italian and honestly, I don't know if that was just the translator's skill, but book was awesome nonetheless. I'd give it a go, since it's -yes- thick ('bout 500 pages), but really easy to read.

Oh, well..mother read it before I did and she was all like "Read this! Read this..it's awesome!"

I normally don't listen to what she says about books, but for once I had and still have to agree with her.

On a side note..has anyone ever read Henry Miller's Tropic of Cancer? Brother said he liked it, but it's not really a genre I'm confortable reading with (herotic, FYI).

Flowers for Algernon - A must read imo.

Flowers for Algernon is mindfucking me... I heard it from different places so many times before. I can't recall where I first it from, maybe a Led Zeppelin song? UGHHHH.. But it does strike me as something I would read. I'm definitely gonna' give it a try especially since it's just a short story.
