I'm considering buying a console as well just for the hell of it. PS3 looks more enticing since it has better hardware, BR, and a better reputation with reliability and Steam being linked to your PSN soon would be pretty cool. I would only buy a 360 for friends, nothing more nothing less.
@thead: Had mine for a bit over a year now, as far as game consoles go it's pretty amazing ( not the biggest console gamer ever here, I don't exactly play games in general as much either ).
That aside any1 knows of a good forum for homebrew ps3 discussions ( is legal to jailbreak your unit and do w/e you please with it as a matter of fact, just before any one goes there ).

Yea heard you could put linux on it or something D: dat be true? and is their a possibility to get the PS3 back to normal after then?
The master key was released not so long ago and I know some people have been working on homebrew, how far along is that ? that i do not know, trying to find out now but I feel rather confident that the community is going to implement stuff like linux back, as far as legit homebrew goes that is the best place to start.

It's not legit, just for clarity: Patch 3.56 2 weeks back actually bricked many consoles because they had homebrew as well as custom firmware installed. Sony has been trying to deal with an issue that came up early in the year; the key being let out, as you previously mentioned.
You can do all of it, install any firmware etc. just be wary that if you attempt to connect to the PSN with your ps3, there is a substantial possibility that Sony will brick your system as well. :/
Edit: From what I remember, the community working on the development of homebrew found a way around what Sony was doing, I think. Don't quote me on it.

It's not legal. The courts even ruled that you can't do that. I don't see what's the difference from a gaming console to a phone honestly. Anyhow like I said Geohotz and Failoverflow both got sued by Sony(I think failoverflow did. Not 100% I haven't been really following the entire issue) and the courts ruled that he can't do that and must hand over any hard drive, ps3, computer, etc etc to the court or something.
If you plan on doing any homebrew I'd say buy another PS3 or never go online with anything installed. Does it keep a record? Who knows..
Also I stand my fat PS3 time to time. Depending where I move it to. In my room it used to stand straight up until I bought a new 32" tv(I used to use my computer screen since my tv was a 32" tube) and never had an issue. The console even fell sometimes when running and no problem. Microsoft was too cheap to put in a less than a dollar technology in the slim for profits. I believe they fixed that though realizing that mistake.
If being a loser means not playing Silkroad all day.. lulwut?
Stop "fact checking" if you are going to do it wrong, the phone jailbreak case was ruled against apple by the supreme court or some bullshit of the like, sony is also trying to sue people and yes if I remember correctly the court did ask from equipment from those people but that doesn't mean anything. Also is very early for sony and in all honesty if there is anything that even remotely resembles justice in those court sony will lose it's case like every other company before it has, the whole premise is beyond stupid or rather corrupt.

All that aside, my post was more of a Sony will brick your $300 dollar system if you use homebrew and try to connect to their servers, it isn't legal, so be aware.

If you like playing with friends I'd go for the xbox, I know of several people who gave up their ps3 because everyone else they knew had a xbox. It's nice to have one, it's powerful and different, but that won't help you much if you want to play together.
I would focus on exclusives though, that is the only real selling point for me.

Well then it comes down to your preferences over exclusives IMO, unless you're a movie whore then I'd take the ps3 UNLESS you already have a blu ray player at home lol
GoW 3 is a must have, I basically bought it just for it.

Do I need to play GoW 1&2 to know the story line?
Angry spartan wants to take his revenge on the gods ~ starts to kill off the gods of olympus.
if you really want to go back and play the first two games [which they are pretty good, though its more of the same], you can get the HD remakes of 1 and 2 via the GoW: Collection for like 25 bucks.
I suggest running through inFamous, Little Big Planet, Resistance, and try out the demo for Flower. There is also Killzone 2 and Killzone 3 that is about to be released.

thats just careless, ive had my xbox since it came out and never ever one disk got messed up.
Can't tell if srs? I keep my system + discs in perfect condition, yet when I take it out of the tray, the discs are scratched. I keep my xbox lying on cardboard, to prevent hard drive errors from carpet etc.

I would recommend you get them both for the ps3, for about 10 bucks a pop if you haven't played them before is really quality gameplay and the price can't be beat. Regarding your question in all honesty I don't think you need to have played the 1st and 2nd installment to enjoy yourself and be blown away by the beast GoW 3 is but you will certainly enjoy it that much more knowing the evolution of the franchise.

Same here (the xbox not scratching my discs), try putting it on the xbox box if you have the room. I always had it on that.

Could try putting strips of foam (the kind that are kinda like a sticker.) Had that on my xbox before it died lol.
