yah you need to go to an apple forum so you can get your butt plugged while asking your question. They extort the ability of any apple device no matter what while on their knees to steve jobs
If being online will be a necessity for you and there aren't any WiFi hotspots nearby, then I would suggest getting the 3G version. If it isn't really a necessity then the WiFi version is good. That being said, a new iPad is due soon and it'll have more functionality than the current generation.
You can also purchase a refurbished iPad online from the Apple website for a lower price. I'm assuming you're in Australia;
All refurbished Apple products include 1 year of Apple Care. Cosmetically, the products are in very good condition. Should the refurbished product have technical problems or severe cosmetic damage (rare), you can visit a local Apple retail store and have it exchanged for a new one.
I have an iPad and I use it all the time, even though I have an iPhone. People who qq about how they're the same thing haven't tried to do reading or Netflix on an iPhone. Even mild web browsing is better since you don't need go continuously scroll.

I regret buying it though, the new generation of MacBook air came out right after. I would of preferred it.
ipad (wifi only) + android rooted for hotspotting = $30/month for both devices...
ipad 3g + iphone = empty wallet and still no service
