Re: Battle: Los Angeles
There really was a "Battle of Los Angeles" in 1942. This is from "UFO's and the National Security State" by Richard Dolan that I'm currently reading:
"A not so tame incident occurred in Los Angeles on February 25, 1942. That night, a number of unidentified craft flew over the city and seemingly caused a blackout. At least a million residents awoke to air raid sirens at 2:25 A.M., and U.S. Army personnel fired 1,430 rounds of antiaircraft shells to bring down what they assumed were Japanese planes. But these were not Japanese planes. George Marshall wrote a memorandum to President Roosevelt about the incident, which remained classified until 1974. Marshall concluded that conventional aircraft were involved, probably "commercial sources, operated by enemy agents for purposes of spreading alarm, disclosing locations of antiaircraft positions, and slowing production through blackout." Despite the barrage of American antiaircraft fire, none of these "commercial" planes were brought down, although several homes and buildings were destroyed, and six civilian deaths were attributed to the barrage. Considering the carnage, the military's explanation was meager. U.S. Navy Secretary Knox even denied that any aircraft had been over the city; he called the incident a false alarm due to war nerves. The local press, needless to say did not take this very well. The Long Beach Independent noted that: "There is a mysterious reticence about the whole affair and it appears some form of censorship is trying to halt discussion of the matter." It is noteworthy that for thirty years, until the release of the Marshall memorandum, the Department of Defense claimed to have no record of the event. Five years before Roswell, the military was already learning to clamp down on UFOS."

What happens when a more advanced civilisation discovers a less advanced one?
The less advanced civilisation either gets enslaved, or whiped out.

Re: Battle: Los Angeles
This is the type of movie I love. It's maybe not 100% original (in fact, this seems very similar to District 9 which is one of my fav films, and that WAS original when you look at the larger picture), but these movies promise 100% action and excitement and that counts for something imo, you don't know what's gonna happen next as opposed to your average revenge movie, or action movie.
Can't wait for this one.
Off to watch District 9 again, because that film's originality and unknown cast --> THE WHOLE WORLD!

Not sure if you were being serious.. but this movie was actually pretty good. Not Independence Day as Shomari suggested. It was well worth a watch. I personally have been a disaster/invasion movie fan since I was younger, still fun to watch.
Re: Battle: Los Angeles
Ehhh I must differ, tbh it was a horrible movie.
My sister fell a sleep to it lol, and I love Indep Day..and all of those type of *good* movies.
This one was just throw up.

Re: Battle: Los Angeles
Is it just me or does anyone else find if boring
and somewhat stupid that these movies ALWAYS seem to focus on
America and only show the rest of the world in an extremly
sterotypical way?
District 9, Monsters and only a few others seem to break the
mold and show that you can have a well written alien invasion
story and not make it into a wankfest for the US miltary.

Re: Battle: Los Angeles
Well, if the Americans dont stand a chance against aliens then it'd be quite boring watch some third world country having a go.
Might aswell see the best military against them than a load of arabs running around with ak47s.
Oh and gonna watch this on Wednesday.

DO NOT GO!
There are really no major actors, I support fully new actors coming into movies, but they first need to be supported by a main one, or be in an amazing movie.
The graphics were covered up by bad blurs. The first attack you see is on a TV which is black and white.
The acting is horrible, they try TO hard to do their part, and they ended up making me and my entire family laugh. Hell I got my money back and my sister feel a sleep
.
Even though I left I heard from many others that the movie really goes no where...the camera shakes WAY to much, it was like Cloverfield all over again. Though it was ok for Cloverfield to shake...for this movie it was not neccesary.
I bet you looked at the trailer and thought "AMAZING!" so did I and most people...but it was poorley made, do not waste your money.
The only people who will like this movie will be military people and preppy girls who have military boy friends

It is the movie manifestation of call of duty if there ever were an alien invasion, pretty much.
The invaders make it to earth, they start fucking shit up in LA. the local military is sent into the city to rescue any survivors/civilians still in the city before they mount their final attack.

Re: Battle: Los Angeles
Ok. So my daughter and I went yesterday afternoon to go see Rango. We missed the start time by 20mins (looked up the wrong theater on my phone). So our remaining choices was 'Battle' and 'Red Riding Hood'. Easy choice.
Battle:LA was an OK movie.
It was not bad. It was not bad ass.
It is a early afternoon/bargain matinee type of movie. Raining on Sunday type of movie.
Orphen nailed it with the COD reference. I'd be really surprised if there isn't a FPS made outta it.
If you have already seen Unknown, True Grit and Green Hornet then go see this.
Or just save your money for SuckerPunch and RedBox/Netflix this.

Re: Battle: Los Angeles
Just watched it.. not a bad film.
If your looking for a film filled with lots of gunfights / constant action, then you'll enjoy it.
If your looking for a film which has a deep storyline or gets you thinking.. then you wont enjoy it. (surprise surprise).
I'm glad i watched it, it delivered what i was expecting and looking for.
