I mean the longterm consequences. What would it mean to world politics? To the position of the current leading nation, the U.S.? A possible World War III?
edit: i just came up with this thought after watching Unthinkable, and after watching the end, this question was stuck in my head. GO WATCH UNTHINKABLE!
''When I die, make sure they bury me upside down, so that the world can kiss my ass.''
Isn't unthinkable the movie about the Catholic priest teaching basketballs to boys and telling not to cut their nails, in addition to banging the black kid?

I just google/imdb - I was thinking about "Doubt". But, I saw unthinkable too and I liked it a lot. I remember it now.
A nuclear bomb exploding in new york could affect Canada because of the blast radius..in fact I think it would kill something like 1/2 the Canadian population (not area, population).
That's assuming that the blast radius of the last giant bomb is like 10x the size by now, which isn't too hard to believe with modern science and all..
This idea is so mind blowing and thought provoking that... not.
Guild Wars 2, Isle of Janthir (NA)
Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken.
Personally, I'd rather not think about such a negative event. All it would do is cause my mind undue pain and misery, the world has enough of that already.
Sometimes, when I'm all by myself in a nice little cafe', I think of just going up to the closet person and holding their hand. And that person would grab the hand of the next person along. On and on it goes, a collaboration of peace and unity. If only for a moment, all pain and misery will stop and the town, suburb, state, or even country, take a minute to step back and reflect. To end the undue pain, to embrace the spirit of man. If only for a moment, we will have peace.
War and death isn't quite my cup of tea, I'd much rather embrace my fellow man than kill him.
well for one it depends who did it so not def war, only a world war if the thread spreads to other nations, keep in mind the half life of the nuclear isotopes so the place would be quite dangerous for some time, the spread of the radiation though the surrounding area, as for politics honestly i doubt it would change it as much as you think sure short term everything would be different but few years down the line back to the same old
The United States would retaliate against the nation they believed to be responsible. This retaliation may very well include a nuclear arsenal. We would either flatten out said nation, or occupy them. We are no longer in the 1900's though, so a world war may not be imminent, because nations aren't as tangled up as then. A lot of people would die and it would be a terrible event. And as someone said, I would be surprised if the government didn't try to impose martial law country-wide. It would definitely make sense.
Playing on Devias SRO - Ashikiheyun if you want a guild PM me here or in-game.
Btw, slightly off topic, but what (for those of you who have watched) think of the movie?
I thought it was a great piece on just exactly what our Governments are capable of, and how little we matter as humans when these Backdoor organizations are at play
