Recent attack by North Korea, thoughts?

As many of you might have heard, yesterday North Korea attacked a South Korean island killing two and injuring several more. Not a "big" attack but still an attack that broke the armistice. More here:

I'm just curious on what your point of view is on the recent attack, the chance of North Korea having technology to build atomic weapons, and generally just what will happen with North Korea in the future.
All through the country starvation is big, there is no energy or fuel and the country is almost completely blocked off to foreigners.

Personally, it seems like a country like North Korea cannot hold itself stable for much longer. It's amazing how much nationalism (or fake nationalism?) the people show. I'm sure many must know of the terrible circumstances outside of the major cities. It surprises me that many citiziens still seem happy to the outside. But again, if you have always been used to a very low standard of life and you get taught that it is much worse everywhere else on the world, maybe I'd be content with the situation too. To me it's all still a big mystery.

-North Korea will bitch.
-South Korea will reply to the bitching.
-US will condemn North Korea's actions.
-UN reps will gather to tell the world that North Korea's being naughty.
-End of story.

If it does escalate:
-North Korea launches another minor attack.
-South Korea retaliates.
-US condemns North Korea and sends in back-up / supplies for South Korea.
-North Korea uses 'Roar' on USA ...it's super-effective!
-UN sends in their peacekeepers with popcorn and blank bullets to represent.
-Battle begins.

This small "incidents" lead forward to the beginning of the next world war. People, in this case not anyone particulary, people around the world forgot how it's like to keep it simple, have a family, food, house, car. No, now they want territory, power, and shit which they doesn't really need, but the desire and human nature of somes to aquire everything leads to what the article says above.

I'm going to have to disagree. I didn't read it, however there are a few things that the U.S. has that North Korea wouldn't stand up against.
1. Working weapons of mass destruction.
2. Hundreds of times larger land mass.
3. We have the power to invade them on all sides, considering South Korea is our ally, and they wouldn't be able to reach the center of our country.
4. We have allies who wouldn't stand for a total war between the U.S. and NK.

um if north korea decides to go to war with south korea (which basically means going to war with america), that pretty much means kim jong il's regime ends. History will probably repeat itself if North Korea goes on a full offensive. USA will back the south and china will once again "probably" back the north..It would not be pretty. Everyone thinks North Korea would be doomed because of america but that would not be the case......


Anyways my whole view on this is that it is quite sad to see brothers and sisters killing each other....They're all Koreans. I wish they would regard that as most important above everything else.

kind of crazy considering i was in South Korea for the GNGWC 2 days before the attack, only 34miles away from Yeonpeong Island also, the day after I flew out of there, they barred all flights in and out..i feel lucky lol
