4th Year Uni - f*cked
I need to talk about this thing, which is bothering me so much....
In my first 3 years, I was doing pretty good, with an average of A-. I cared a lot about my marks, but not to the point that I studied like a nerd (no offence). Just your average guy that did stuff in the last minute but was smart enough to plan time management, so there would be always time to double check and restudy/review.
Previously, if I got like a 70% or lower in a midterm, I would be so pissed and study much harder for the next midterm/exam and get like 90%++ just to balance my other 'bad' mark out.
This year, my first three midterms I have gotten like 60% for all of them. IT feels that I don't care anymore. I got the 60% and I was like 'meh w/e'. I didn't study as much. I don't know if it is because of the bad schedule I have (Monday to Thursday I'm at school from 8AM to 6PM - takes 2 hours to get to school and 2 hours to get back home; 4 hours wasted commuting)or because the classes are now harder and I feel like even if I studied more it wouldn't make much of a difference.
Or probably because I'm distracted with my friends that play dota/SC2 and they there are always like 10 people on skype 24/7 - playing either game. Also, I'm very good at both games: somewhat high level in SC2 and captain of a dota team for lan tournaments (earn some $$), so it's hard not to play, when it is so relaxing and not stressful (studying is so freaking stressful nowadays).
There are so many things going on in my life, and there is like little time to study. This semester is hella nd my GPA will drop for sure.
In school everyone still thinks I'm the same person as previous years (the one getting good marks), and even people that don't know me thinks I'm the 'nerd'. Because well, I'm asian that looks smart plus I wear nerd glasses, though I'm very outgoing. I feel bad when I dissapoint them when I get my low marks this semester. They think something bad is happening in my life and they always ask me 'what is wrong with me'.
Hell, today I got one of my midterms back and I got such a low mark that even the prof doesn't know me that well, asked me 'what happened'. She was like 'you are a good student, I was dissapointed that you got such a low mark'. I lied to her and said that I was sick the whole weekend and couldn't study. Obviously, she is gonna realize that I lied when I have to write the final exam and I get another low mark. Sad thing is that I was thinking of asking this prof to do research after this semester, but I don't think it is gonna happen.
This is getting pretty long; I guess I will stop now. I don’t even know why I wrote this thread but I felt like expressing how I felt (rant?), even if that meant to unknown people, who probably don’t give a flying neck... lol

Sack up
drop the games
study
Not like there's much left, it's your fourth year (I'm assuming your last for now). There will be plenty of time to game when your rich from that great degree you got after graduating near the top of your class.

You have to refind your motivation for studying. Why are you doing this study, what motivated you before?

I don't know what is going on.
I just can't sit down and concentrate studying like I did my previous 3 years. Now I sit down and I get bored in less than 30mins.
Today I was supposed to study for a midterm coming this Wednesday and I just wasted 4 hours surfing the net. F*ck.

Like I said. Look inside yourself to find the motives you used to have to study. You can also try rewarding yourself but that takes alot of discipline.

I'm having the same problem atm.
Trying to motivate myself a lot ^^
Had the first exam for this period yesterday, i believe i did ok.
The feeling when you've completed the exam (if the stuff you studied was in it) makes it worth it.
Just think of the thing you're studying for and how you'll feel right after it if you've fked it up or how you'dd feel if you did good.

Re: 4th Year Uni - f*cked
The way I see it you have 2 choices, both with predictable outcomes.
A.) You choose to man up a bit and study again. You put in a lot of effort, which isn't easy, but your rewarded with good marks and finish with a very good qualification. You stand out from most of your class, who fail to achieve the marks you have, and as such you have a distinct advantage over them when it comes to the interview process. Your ability to find a job that you will really enjoy has been increased and you are giving yourself the best possible opportunity to achieve it.
B.) You don't study, you get shit marks, you slip back with the rest of the pack, job potential decreased blah blah blah.
I really don't feel like expanding the second one as it sums it up perfectly. Like Moshe said, why are you doing this? You have a passion for the industry, right? Well start focusing again, because without it chances are you'll have a hard time getting in. The private industry (especially) is a very competitive place and there's no point bringing a chicken into a cock fight, is there?

Man today I finished my first period. Waiting for one grade but for the practical part I got a 7.2/10 which is good for me haha. For the theory exam I have a 7 so far and waiting for the 2nd half. Hopefully I'll have a 6+ on that so it rounds to 7 too. Not that it matters, 5.5 or 10 they both give the same amount of points I need to keep going.
It does feel like I just finished my final exam and I'm graduating lol, dunno why.

Re: 4th Year Uni - f*cked
My motivation my past 3 years was to get a GPA of at least 3.00, which is needed to get into Masters.
But this year I haven't been able to concentrate and study anymore. I don't want to study any further after I graduate... but at the same time idk.. it just feels weird to get 60% and below in stuff which I will usually get good marks.
I feel like I'm like ..... a fugly old fat woman and I couldn't care less.

Re: 4th Year Uni - f*cked
Dude its only natural to feel this way for most people in their 4th year...Its the burnout period...a part of you just want it to be over that's all. The good thing is your past 3 years you did well so your overall grade average should be satisfactory. Just try to find some balance and bare the remaining term..
